Careful Craig, using "tar" and "Obama" in the same sentence might be racist...
In other news I do have to agree with you (ouch) that yes this is certainly the Democrat's election to lose - having said that they do have a wonderful habit of pulling losses from inevitable victories.
That most recent special election must be a huge eye-opener for them and I think we'll see a radical distancing from the Bush Regime in the leadup to the General Election.
Here's hoping anyway. A douche in the Oval Office is still better than a Bush Douche.

*for them meaning the Republican party...damn my pronoun usage

From Obama's prepared remarks in Iowa --he's speaking at the moment about being "within reach" of the nomination, having picked up a majority of pledged delegates with Oregon to come.
The road here has been long, and that is partly because we've traveled it with one of the most formidable candidates to ever run for this office. In her thirty-five years of public service, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has never given up on her fight for the American people, and tonight I congratulate her on her victory in Kentucky. We have had our disagreements during this campaign, but we all admire her courage, her commitment and her perseverance. No matter how this primary ends, Senator Clinton has shattered myths and broken barriers and changed the America in which my daughters and yours will come of age.
Pitch perfect.
As is the rest of the speech. I'm never quite clear on the divide between Obama's own rhetoric and that of his speechwriters (who are they, anyway?), but it's so good.

If we're being fussy, douchebag is probably sexist. I think everyone overlooks that because the word has such a music to it.
-
Russell why would you open that can of worms and make me appear sexist?!?

His speechwriter is apparently some 26-year-old wunderkind called Jon Favreau. (No, not that one.) And a coupla other young whippersnappers.

Thanks -- fascinating story. Trivia: he has a Jesuit education.

It is very good. If that kid doesn't get a good job in the administration writing all the speeches, he's going to get a good job writing someone else's speeches in the Party.
It's very West Wing speeches. I have a picture of Toby Ziegler standing on a stage while a bunch of activists argue on the floor, and he's talking to a police officer about how to write good speeches.

Thanks, Danielle, I had been idly wondering who wrote those words and how much input the candidate had. And now I wonder how bad it is that I think Jon Favreau is cute as a little button.

Well, if we're being fussy, a douchebag is an appliance for the adminstration of a procedure that is ineffective on the contraceptive front, can interfere with with the natural bacterial culture and self-cleaning of the vagina, or contribute to rritation, bacterial vaginosis, and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
Still nice to know that you shouldn't use the same bag for vaginal douching and enemas. Thanks Wiki!

Well, I certainly think you can have a serious debate around Middle East policy without throwing around drivel like this:
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along ... We have an obligation to call this what it is - the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
That was President Bush on the floor of the Knesset, marking the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the state of Israel. I don't know what's more offensive, the speech itself or that nobody even felt the need to make the coded slam for domestic consumption more subtle than a kick in the nuts.

Is this guy the beginning of the millennials, the xkcd generation starting to make their mark? If so, bring them on.

Indeed Craig. Maybe he's writing his own speeches now.The idea that negotiation equals appeasement is interesting. In order to avoid being Chamberlain a leader must simply make loud demands via the media, if those demands are not met in full, then it's time for the silent treatment. During which Hitler invades Poland or something.
