  • Hebe, in reply to recordari,

I was thinking along the lines of "this mortar coil' but couldn't work the app.

I find I can't do diclofenac for long without tummy troubles

Tried any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories? They vary, but some people just can't stomach any of them.

  • Susannah Shepherd,

The buffalo yogurt (non-vanilla) turned into an amazing baba ganoush in the hands of my partner. The pain is it's bloody hard to find.

For the Wellingtonians, I recommend you get it from the lovely Wendy at Cultured in Petone. Must try the baba ganoush idea, if only because I like setting fire to eggplants.

    Metamorphosis, for a change...

You really should have taken your car, all that crawling would be hard on the knees and I am so glad you didn’t turn into a Car Park, we love you just the way you are.

Ah, memories. Some 30 years ago, I was in the stage show of that at Bats in Wellington.

While we are talking about good food, may I entreat everyone who is able to go to the Monterey Coffee Lounge and have their zucchini fritters (with a poached egg, salmon, and hollandaise sauce)? Unbelievably good.

    threadjack...
Looks like we broke the Brickface Thread!
was it server overload or sensory overload?

    he's a brick...
Just when I wanted to say, now that this 'font' exists
would it be possible to make it available as a font to buy
which might then give Blair some small extra return on
what looks like a lot of creative work...
and I'm sure it would be of interest to a lot of type lovers
worldwide - a font created by an earthquake - I'd love to
see it mentioned on boing boing and in wired and other places...
I mean how many fonts have come out of Chchch?
This would put Mr Parkes up there with that florid font from Strategy for the Chchch Art Gallery*
and maybe Max Hailstone - but he was from the UK and mostly taught about type at Ilam. oh and Paul Russell and maybe a few others, but not many...
Any way I'm all for any initiatives that give Blair more of a profile
    - he is a very multi-talented creator.

*oh, hang on that was by Jeremy Tankard in the UK, too

News to me! Just checking there's not a major reason for it to be off before turning it on again.

It was closed. We've just turned it on again, but I don't know why it closed. Mystery!

  • Aidan,

Russell, re your enthusiasm for the cycle. Do you wear a backpack on the bike? If so, I'd really recommend getting a pannier or two (and using them!).

They wouldn't really suit the hybrid I ride. The cycle pack I wear works pretty well for me really.

  • JackElder,

Nah, for sheer cargo-shifting power you want an xtracycle. Allows you to carry enough stuff (full week's grocery shops, for instance) that getting uphill becomes an iffy proposition. You live on the flat, right?

  • Aidan,

I understand panniers aren't for everyone (I ride a Scott Sub-10) but I found cycling with a pack put strain on my lower back. Been using a pannier for 12 years or so.

Added bonus is a way less sweaty back.

  • James Butler, in reply to Aidan,

+1 for panniers - they're essential for more than 30 minutes or so of riding when carrying a change of clothes + lunch. I made mine out of a pair of $10 school backpacks from the Warehouse.

    Not really ...

But I confess I'm a bit confused about where to go next bikewise.

I have the 2009 version of the GT Transeo 2.0, which is noticeably quicker since I swapped to a skinny kevlar road tyre on the front.

I wouldn't mind upgrading, but I don't really want a commuter bike. The Cannondale Quick hybrid range is on special around the corner at Rode, but ... I dunno. Maybe I'd like an actual road bike. Then again, I do want to be able to ride pavements and gravel sometimes ... Is there a really quick Quick?
