• Steve Barnes,

naked Badgers WTF? Now, where are those smoking Beagles?

  • Steve Barnes,

    Bring on the smoking Beagles

Before getting too excited about these experiments, however, we need to consider this: the largest known rats weigh no more than an average of one pound. Forcing a one pound rat to smoke 8 cigarettes per day is the equivalent of forcing a 160 pound human to smoke 1280 cigarettes per day (64 packs). Such experiments are not realistic and in no way replicate exposure to ordinary tobacco smoke. Given the enormous concentrations of smoke used by the experimenters, it is wonder that any of the animals even survived the ordeal; yet, they did, and only a small percentage developed tumors.

And to make matters worse I think the relationship between CO2 and "Global Warming" is a load of tosh! We have all been conned by those with a vested interest.

Nice thought but the numbers just don't add up. With the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere being only about 2% the effects of any increase in this paltry amount are far out weighed by water vapour which increases and decreases by vast amounts daily. This whole carbon credit scam is just plain crazy.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

    Quality, not quantity surely?

Ye, thought of that right after I posted and the transport thing but if you see agee jars full of powders being used as a purse, quantity can have its bearing.

  • Russell Brown,

Interesting column by Simon Jenkins on the British government's re-classication (upwards) of cannabis in the face of official advice. Reason doesn't have a lot to do with it.

  • paulalambert,

At Tues night's public meeting re alcohol disorder on the streets of Chch organised by Brendon Burns (running for Tim Barnett's Chch Central seat) in that lovely old St Michaels church, MP Lianne Dalziel and mayor Bob Parker both emphatically made the point that alcohol is a drug, a mind altering substance, and should be viewed in context of 'alcohol and other drugs', instead of ubiquitous 'alcohol and drugs'.

The Press reporter took it all down - she sat on pew directly in front of me - but in today's report of the meeting the paper mentions neither that nor Canterbury district commander Superintendent Dave Cliff beginning his speech 'you've probably all heard the headlines lately about p. Well we haven't got a big problem with p, its with alcohol."

After that they discussed all sorts of angles without mentioning the alcohol production industry and its influence. So much for the full monty of a context. It was party buses, youth, supermarkets, 24hr convenience stores, community attitudes, mental health, possible bylaw this and that, current Queenstown legal challenge to council bylaw closing late-opening bars, other law changes and criminal sanctions.

There is a Law Commission review of the MOD Act on the horizon, but I've never noticed that there is a NZ equivalent of the Guardian.

Since Oct 2007 • 927 posts Report Reply

  • paulalambert,

    Yes I am.

And I'll handle the cracks about having lala in the middle of my name, it serves me right for not using a falsie.

  • Shep Cheyenne,

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

I'm not hassling your name, just a little clarity as to your official position which may add some colour to your comments.

I declare my interests - problem is I don't have many official positions & none relating to this topic.

  • andrew llewellyn,
In Blazing Saddles they said 'Badges'
Did they say it in Saddles? It's originally from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - mexican bandits claim they're lawmen, Bogart asks to see their badges, bandit replies

"Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges."

    And shooting ensues.

  • nz native,

Relateing Back to Russells original blog, I D.A.R.E anyone to think of a anti-drug organization started up by an ex-copper.

The only thing ‘proven’ about Sabins ideas and proposals is that they always fail …………………..” harm elimination “= “ just say no” …….. anyone else feel a touch of Hello Nancy? .

I’d also like to say good on Paula L for being secretary of Norml and working to end the arrests and prosecutions of ADULT cannabis users. There would have to be something wrong with a person not to support such a stance.

I’ve always believed that scratch a ( cannabis ) prohibitionist and you’ll find an arsehole.

But that’s the thing about these misinformed jerks, they don’t mind it being normal for police to kick in peoples doors, conduct random searches and shit all over the people they are supposed to be ‘serving and protecting’ rights.

These prohibitionist also seem to be unaware ( or don’t care ) that NZ has been number one in the world for arresting its citizens on cannabis charges.

I think there’s a lot of people out there like myself who have anger towards our police and justice system because of this.
