Really, Russell, you've brought it on yourself. This guy's a dick, nothing more and nothing less, so who cares what he posts on his blog? Just as long as it doesn't seep onto publicaddress. Please, don't contaminate yourself.

  • Shep Cheyenne,

So the issue here is, someone writing about the glitterati & socialites, is being false. I'm starting to see the irony.

Wasn't that the theme to Cinderalla, A Knights Tale, & every teenage dream of being accepted by the cool croud & the fear of being found out?

Whaleoil spends his time exposing 23yr old young women and attacking Russell for commenting on it because there are (snigger) more important things to do (LOL).

  • Jake Pollock,

I wonder if this is the Curse of CSI striking again -- enormously fun television shows, but I have my doubts that any RW law enforcement agency could afford such surrealistically well-resourced omni-competent staff...

One of the side-effects of CSI in the US has been to dramatically increase the profile of those units. Whereas before they drove from crime scene to crime scene in nondescript vehicles, now you can spot them hurtling down the highway in giant SUVs with CRIME SCENE ANALYSIS UNIT emblazoned on the side, and wandering around in cool jackets that similarly announce their presence.

I concur. "Never pat a burning dog" springs to mind.

  • Russell Brown,

Oh how hugely funny. Russel won't link to my blog but easily links to a radical, lesbian, man hating, christian hating website.

Which I am far from sure is real, actually ...

Talking about glorious train wrecks, for once I wish Sean Plunket had gone feral on Winston Peters. While I do try and avoid parlour psychoanalysis, it was awe-inspiring getting a guided tour around the delusional landscape that is Peters' head. I don't know what's more scary: The idea that he's a pathological and habitual liar, or the possibility that he really believes even half the shit that comes out of his mouth.

I question whether you on the other hand have any standards of decency at all.

You brag about the lesbian orgies..."

    Russell said

Am I the only one who, on hearing that the police had arrested an Iraqi man over the Vogel lane apartment stabbings -- but could only identify the sex of one of two corpses -- thought "fuck me, this is a weird spell we're going through"?

Did anyone else do a double-take when this story broke and TV3 news' first live cross had the banner "Homocide"? Still not sure if it was an innocent typo or a macabre pun... Was fixed by the second live cross.

  • Mark,

The "Whaleoil" post - who cares Russell? What was the point of even referring to it? It is just not important and I would have thought someone of your calibre would not waste typing about such an irrelevant weird blogger. Are we now going to get you quoting some of Martyn Bradbury's bizarre conspiracy theories on quiet days? My God, there is just so much more important things happening to blog about.

As much as I admire a freak show, surely a guy like that should best be ignored until he goes away.

Oh I dunno. WO seems to be a useful channel for some folks. Similar to the way Wishart is useful.

    Lighten up Mark,

There may be more important things going on but RB posted this on a Sunday. Surely the end of the world isn’t that imminent that we can’t all have a chuckle on a Sunday??

BTW, I’m thinking The Hairy Armpit is a fictional creation of a right-wing blogger in order to wind up his mates. It just ticks too many boxes.

That was my thinking. I've even posted a serious-ish blog this morning ...

Yes, quite possible. Which would make the flame war even funnier.

    Aw, go on! It's fun.

Purely speculatively, I am not a psychiatrist and neither do I play one on TV yadda yadda, but my money's on Sociopathy of some form. Dissocial personality disorder looks like a possibility.

  • Robyn Gallagher,

I was getting a weird deja vu feeling about this situation and I just remembered who I was reminded of: L** S***.

L** was a troubled young lady who had 15 seconds of fame a few years ago due to her antics on NZ Idol, Craccum magazine and some amateur porn. She ended up being raked over the coals in the Something Awful forums. It didn't make her go away.

While WO obviously feels that he must out this new girl as a terrible person who - gasp - made up/exaggerated some biographical details, I suspect that the attention will fuel her need for attention. While ignoring isn't as much fun, it would be a more effective response.

Clearly, you are not apprised of Whaleoil's astonishing foray into the land of the gossip queens

I won't thank you for bringing this into my realm of consciousness! I get more than my quoto of gossip and schadenfreude from unintentional glimpses of the TVNZ "news"!

Its all just a bit insignificant surely!

Speaking of schadenfreude...I just love it when Winnie the Pooh comes unstuck and especially in such ironic circumstances. He really is the Court Jester of NZ Politics!

  • Rich of Observationz,

Charlie Brookers piece in the Grauniad this morning is about how by writing an article that poked the nest of the mad-as-fuck (in this case 911-denial-denial), he substantially boosted the paper's traffic and search engine placings.

Perhaps this is the route for content - for Russell to make money fast he needs more mentions of Britney Spears nude videos, stores with New Zealand iPhones still available and the reason Antoine Dixon is being retried.

    Sociopathy of some form.

I'm told there's a version of the actual psychopathy diagnosis tool designed for businesspeople and so on rather than criminal offenders.

I also believe there's a personality disorder called "Narcissism".

This post by Russell is nothing more than an attempt to avoid blogging about Labour's parlous poll ratings and Winston's nefarious funding activities.

parlous poll ratings? they look better each day, move over willieoil we're comin' through.
    Winston's nefarious funding activities.? Whatever.

Was I the only one who instinctively jumped to close that window when the spam-laden title came up?

The example I have often used is this:

As you might expect, PA traffic rose considerably during the 2005 election campaign, and although it subsided a bit eventually, there was a sustained increase thereafter.

But ... the spike didn't start with any political story. It was the "celebrity drug scandal" that kicked it off. I led with it one the first morning, and traffic went nuts.

"Cool," I thought, and led with it again. It worked again -- an the next day.

This is one of the dirty little secrets of web traffic. The News Ltd papers in Australia are huge on getting journalists to blog, because it drives comments traffic.

But ... when I had it explained to me, one blogger (from nearly 100) was responsible for 40% of the comments traffic. Was he the most thoughtful or intelligent? No, he was the most provocative, angry and bigoted. Both sides of the argument flocked there to either praise or damn him.
