Vista SP1 is fine to install - all issues well and truly ironed out by now. (SP2 is in beta and I'd consider you very courageous for installing that...)

Turns out Leo had already downloaded SP1 this morning, so he set it installing.
It fucking bluescreened.

I refuse to run Vista, even in a virtual box. When I have to use Windows, it's XP sp2 which is as solid as Windows gets.

I have had very little trouble with Vista HP. SP1 installed properly, without any bluescreens, and generally runs speedily with few hassles. Installing third party software requires patience and grog, however.
But I cannot get used to the new Stuff. After registering, it will not remember me even using a different tab within Firefox on the same day. I emailed Don but no reply - anyone else help?

I have to say that Vista has been improved *greatly* from the original version. I mean, it's almost usable.
(Actually, I'm running Vista on this computer, but only because it came installed and it's not quite useless enough to warrant wiping it and installing XP.)

I had the same experience with Stuff not remembering me, but the scope for personalisation was so minimal I thought I'd give up on it anyway.

I know there is a time restriction on it but I have been running windows 7 beta for a few weeks now and it kicks ass. Super snappy. Haven't had a single crash since installing one windows hotfix. Iphone syncs no problems.I am just worried what I will do when the beta expires. I can't go back to vista or even xp after this.

Yeah, I wish I'd gone that way. XP was just getting stable when they brought out Vista, typically Microsoft test it for three years on paying clients crud.

The Vista C015001A error is sometimes seen when Norton antivirus gets in the way of Windows Update.
If you have a Norton anti-virus product try turning it off when doing the update. Also try right clicking on Windows Update and making sure you are in 'Run As Administrator' mode.
This may be the same situation regardless of which AV product you use.
I know this Windows ninja-ness may seem annoying to Macsters, but there is usually a way around most things...

I'm actually running Windows Server 2008 on this laptop. It's like Vista without the bling. Not as quick as Windows 7 but very stable, and a built in hypervisor for playing wtih the other stuff (including Windows 7, which I'm not allowed to run on client sites).

Norton is a cure that's worse than the problem IMHO... probably responsible for far more pain than Vista ever has been.

Refrain from surfing dodgy websites or opening attachments to emails from Russia while your AV software is disabled ;-)

Vista SP1 is an improvement. Even then, it's still a case of "the Ow starts now!"

Mmmmm Windows 7 Beta. It's just a pity there's not good EPG solution for terrestial Freeview HD (yet).

Russell, seriously, a clean install of Windows 7 Beta is your best bet. Vista is poos (http://xkcd.com/528/), and this is coming from a hardened Microsoft user and developer.
There are rumours of a free Win7 upgrade for Vista users, but in any case it would be worth your while purchasing 7 when it is out just to get away from the Vista pain.

I can see your problem now. You can't live in the best part of the best country in the world *and* expect unfettered access to stuff.co.nz. That would be too much of a good thing. Sorry.
TBH, I did have a response for you but it involved checking your cookie settings. Also in the pipe line is a much demanded "remember me" option.
