  • mike gemmell,

learnings: we took some learnings from the report but we don't really intend to address them.

  • mike gemmell,

2016: Seems to be that this is the first time a year has widely been accredited as being complicit in bad things that have happened, the death Bowie & Prince, Trumps election and my favourite teacup that broke to name a few.

'Narrative', as in does this have one, and I don't want to be in it.

I would also like to second Echo Chamber, Trumpocalypse, and Shit-Weasel.

  • Geoff Lealand,

I am with Hebe: morte. It has been far too popular this year.

  • Lynn Yum,

    Word salad

Seemingly full sets of coherent words put together, but when picked apart, revealed only few meaning bits. Like a grilled chicken salad put together as a whole, but only the grilled chicken is meant to be eaten and the greens ignore.

Wait, is that not how people generally consume grilled chicken salad???

Seriously though, I want to point out that the leading article still made references to 2015, not 2016, like “How will 2015 shape up? Well, that’s up to you.”

  • JessicaRose,

I want to suggest 'woke' but I'm still not sure I can easily explain what it means, even to myself. I have a feeling that is why it hasn't really caught on.

'Housing crisis' as in we have one. Followed by 'bubble burst' as in when will it?

"Post-truth" for me too, though I must admit to enjoying using "bigly" on occasion

  • Felix Geiringer,

Closer to home, I think "Keyless" will come of age next year. For this year, perhaps the local word/phrase of the year is "housing crises".

'white man' Is this the year that we have spoken out loud about the white man in the room? as in 'all of the board directors are white men'.

  • Ian Pattison,

Horrifying. This word was Hillary Clinton's response to Trump's equivocation on whether or not he would accept the election results. But it could equally apply to most things that have happened this year.

  • JLM,

Trumped, because his election topped all the other disasters piling up over the year. What a year, a harbinger of things to come...

    My last contribution:

On a different vein, how about "2016". I think this year has had such an impact it deserves consideration as word of itself.

Mansplaining? Or was that more last year. Manterupting doesn't roll off the tongue so well and I think they are the same thing.

I'm making a pattern with my suggestions, damn my echo chamber!
