  • Che Tibby,

congrats on the anniversary man. there was a time when public address was my no.1 tether to a much-missed turangawaewae. that's something you don't forget.

  • Geoff Lealand,

If there were a way of making regular contributions (say, $20 or 30 each month), I would like that--better than paying the rates or the gas bill.

Any thoughts of a picnic or such this summer, where we could raise an actual glass of some beverage in honour of this anniversary?

  • Jackie Clark,

I can't come near to describing accurately what Public Address has brought into my life. Friends, laughter, not a few tears. Most importantly, it has been a community of people who I am immensely proud to be a part of. And none of that would have happened without your considerable energy and time, Russell. One day, you'll slow down, I'm sure, but until that day, just keep doing what you do. It's important, and it's rewarding for more people than any of those Nielsen thingies can even imagine.

  • Geoff Lealand,

And PAS folk have such a huge range of interests--just witness the Capture conversation about spring and things,

I second Jackie's sentiments. . I certainly encounter more enlightened and interesting conversations here than in the academic circles I move in,

  • Paul Brislen,

Happy Birthday PA and well done, Rascally Russel. Thanks for the opportunity to post and to join in and for giving Keith and co a place to do some of the best reporting in the land.

  • Nat,

    +1 to that Jackie!

I first came across PA when Jolisa broke the Witi story. We bought the book for my mother in law for her birthday and attached Jolisa's blog post and the article from the Listener for extra homework :-) I love reading Busy Town; few and far between as the posts are, they are always gold. And I was lucky enough to run into Jolisa at a performance of Alice in Wonderland, which seems somehow appropriate.

And I've learnt so much from Emma! She has helped to open up and refine my views on a whole lot of things.

And of course, your own prolific and pointed articles Russell always keep me up to date with NZ media and politics and more.

And my friend Paul Williams and I often get a kick out of the fact that he a kiwi in Australia and me an aussie in New Zealand both hang out here.

So, what Jackie said really. A huge congrats for starting and keeping this thing going!

  • Damian Christie,

Yes, well done Russell and a big pat on the back to everyone here, bloggers past and present and the PAS regulars (and the lurkers too of course, I love you because you don't answer back ;)

I noticed the anniversary approaching when Maurice Williamson made his comments about the four years bloggers have been on this 6000 year old planet. Even at 10 years we are but a speck, but it's been a really enjoyable speck, and so thanks for that Russell - for asking me to be part of PA as a result (I assume) of my rants on bFM - for explaining what a blog was a minute later - and your infuriating ability to come up with a far more comprehensive, thoroughly researched and well thought-out post on the very thing I'm halfway through writing. Let's just assume that's the reason for you being far more prodigious than I am in output shall we ;)

Seriously though, cheers. I can pretty much trace exactly where I am now to your invitation to join PA. And by that I don't mean sitting in my dressing gown at home waiting until Back Benches starts up next year, I mean all the great stuff that's happened these past ten years. You've been a big part of that. Ta x.

And I think that's a great example of the way readers step up and contribute here. Thanks to both you and David, Graeme.

Yep, the ones you did on your Wire show. I thought: dude can form an argument. I'm really pleased that invitation did something to bring you to the attention of people who paid you :-)

  • Chip Matthews,

Congrats on the ten years, brosi! I started as an avid listener in the 90's, a wee step on my pathway to being more aware of the world I inhabit and interact with. The influence upon me from you and the other contributers is immeasurable. Thanks to you, and to everyone involved. Salute.

  • Dave Howell,

I've been lurking since Hard News was listen-only, and almost never comment: mostly because I'm usually a few days behind the play, but partly because when I do it depresses me: l'esprit d'escalier still works even in slo-mo. But let me just pop up to say that this has been my most valued chunk of the internet since it used to arrive in my inbox. Congratulations Russell, and everyone else, and thank you all for making the world just that little bit a better and more enlightened place.

Happy anniversary Russell. It’s been our pleasure to be involved and to watch PA grow from an idea into this city.

Agree with Dave. Found Hard News when I spent a year in Houston in 1995 and it was a valued link with NZ. Have been an avid follower ever since but largely a lurker. Please keep up the good work.

  • Stephanie,

Only 10 years! PA is such a critical part of my opinion reading that it feels like it has been part of my life for longer (of course various forms of Russell’s writing have been, for considerably longer than that). Happy birthday, dear us.

  • Lucy Stewart,

I found Public Address the year I started uni, which was not so long before PAS opened for business; I really can't understate how many fun and engaging discussions I've had here, and how much of a lifeline back to NZ it's been since I moved overseas, especially (but not only because of) when the Christchurch earthquakes happened.

I hope it lasts as long as everyone here wants it to, however long - and I hope it is long - that may be.
