  • JacksonP, in reply to BenWilson,

I like practically everything people have hated on here (I did once like even the album I hated on).

We'll be having words if you like this.

The Mama Mia movie soundtrack. Just no.

Thank you. The 'friends' who insisted on giving it to our children don't come around here no more. Well, they do, but it's banned when I'm home.

I've loathed Dire Straits forever. This youtube clip has a Suzuki shopping basket ad on before it; perfectly targeted marketing.

  • Gary Elshaw,

Whitney Houston songs always annoyed the hell out of me, especially I Will Always Love You. Awful thing to say, but when she left this world I really hoped she might take that song with her. This however always makes me run away from where ever it is playing, or reach for the switch while promising harm.

As a prog rock tragic I quite like some of Genesis' early work.

But what Phil Collins has done since leaving the band should have him up for crimes against humanity.

Anything from Oasis just sounds whiny and annoying to me. But how awesome is this Mike Flowers cover of Wonderwall!

Or anything else Leo Sayer did for that matter. Bulldozer Brownlee has previously confessed to being a fan. Maybe Lordi could be brought in from Helsinki to administer some, well, corrective therapy?

Awww, c'mon. I don't own the first Meat Loaf album but it's a classic in its way. Otoh, Steinman has a lot to answer for for inventing Wagnerian pop.

Well, alright, you might not. But I LOVE it.

Good grief. Down to the way he holds the microphone and does a little shuffle.

Good call. Music for young (at the time) accountants and metal fans who turned 30 and needed to get sensible

The core difference between men and women is encapsulated in your comment. Or maybe it's this: I love it, my partner loathes it:

  • Jacqui Craig,

That awful 'Shaddupa your face' or whatever the title is - gets me rather incoherent with rage and make throttling motions with my hands towards the radio. My husband played a whole Bob Dylan album on a car trip once and that was pretty awful but I couldn't start laughing too hard or he would have been hurt. It was like listening to some emo kid's bad poetry set to music. Actually, considering he also likes reggae and 70s music, and I'm an 80s teenager and don't like reggae except for 3 Little Birds, it's surprising we've managed to stay married...

  • Jackie Clark,

Okay, okay. You can all hate on whatever music you like. But please please do not hate on the people who might like it. Music snobbery is never attractive. Never.

Alex Petridis at The Guardian said he liked to stir his Springsteen fan mates up by telling them that "Bat out of Hell" was the album that Bruce would have made if he'd had more talent.

    Hardy har har. *applause*.

  • Tom Beard,

There have been times in my life when I'd have been tempted to answer "anything with guitars", but that would rule out New Order. What I really can't stand is rawk, especially grunge: sweaty AND angsty is a particularly grating combination.

That said, there's a whole circle of hell that I'd reserve for just about every Top 40 pop hit of the 80s and 90s (with the exception of synth pop). My idea of torture is one of those bars aimed at hen's nights and singalong office parties that plays endless Whitney Houston, Kenny Loggins, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, Foreigner, Wham!, Huey Lewis, Simply Red, U2....

Excuse me, I'm just going to shoot myself.
