  • Michael Fitzgerald,

Are these the poster children for the new (& fascist) ASBO - Anti Social Behaviour Order - (Black Square is an optional extra).

Is this the work of Dr McTurk who made such a splash at the Christchurch City Council?

    Sorry to repeat myself but,
Why do we know about the Salt family?
Why were there 4/5 police and a camera crew around?
No crime had been committed, but a poor family who had a few run-ins with the cops in the past have got more coverage than murder/rape etc.
If they say they're getting harrassed by the police (& let's include the media & HNZ), they have a strong point.
The issues as far as they've been covered are historical & rightly so have been dissmissed.

Good on Bush for standing up for prisoners rights and reducing the absurdly long sentences. May it long continue.

  • Craig Ranapia,

And there are times when I'm tempted to e-mail David Farrar and volunteer to help keep house after reading this kind of outright creepy drivel...

I said to my wife ,overseas in some places the neighbours would have burnt the house down, like in Iraq a thought ,positive direct action, burn them out and move them on, ,just a thought again.

    Oy and vey...

What of the streaming parliamentary video? Will it be in an open format? Or rubbish windows media like Question Time on TVNZ?

  • BenWilson,

Yes, will I be able to stream it to my PDA so I can watch it on the toilet? It will certainly help any time I've got constipation.

  • InternationalObserver,

So why didn't HNZ issue a completely legal 90 day notice of termination?

    Are you sure they didn't?

Pretty sure, because if they had of then the Salt family tenancy would be terminated with 90 days notice. And if they had tried it already (but failed), it would have been leaked to the media.

I think that you could count the number of actual, state tenant evictions, over say the last 10 years, on one hand.

I think your comments confirm then that HNZ don't actually evict tenants. Probably because there are no 'bad' tenants, just tenants who have been mis-understood. (But probably also because HNZ have a mandate to house people in need - if the Salt's can prove they're 'in need' how do you terminate?)

And I also take the points that Michael Fitzgerald makes. It would have been better just to terminate the tenancy rather than try and evict them via the court of public opinion (hence the media being used).

I think you might be right there. I do know that they serve quite a few eviction notices, but follow through on very few ultimately.

Why they didn't use the 90 day notice of termination is baffling though, I know they use that routinely in other cases.

Sorry to drag this all the way back up to the top, but my friend in America (no, really, an actual friend in America!) informs me that our lovely new rules about satirising and denigrating Parliament actually make The Daily Show tonight.
