Yeah, but *they're* about to elect this groundbreaking historically significant dude, and *we're* about to elect... John Key. Quality control: EPIC FAIL. :)
Yeah, but shall I run through the roll call of women on top of the last few years? Plus my dear Georgina. And there has been a Maori prime minister - although admittedly not in New Zealand.

I know Sacha was joking, so I'm not up in his grill or anything, but I suppose my two points are that getting all 'they're wasted on the Americans!' is silly because a) that's a bit like saying that the people we like are not 'real' Americans, which is just the kind of attitude, in reverse, that The Daily Show has been bitching quite legitimately about for the last week or so; and b) NZ obviously has just as many people, proportionately, upon which 'quality' is wasted.
Oh dear. I don't seem to have avoided the ranting very well.

Hey, don't look at me, I love the rant, I asked for the rant. You're just snubbing your fan base.

James Carroll was acting Prime Minister in 1909 and 1911.
Which doesn't sound like much by today's standards, but the PM was traveling around on the world on a boat, so he was our Prime Minister for several months on the trot.
Also the first Maori MP to be elected by Pakeha voters.

Y'know, I'd valiantly managed to maintain a calm reasonable attitude until now, but the last few days Key has really pissed me off. He's in favour of civil unions, he just voted against them. He'd keep us in Kyoto, and pull us out. He's both keeping and abolishing the Families' Commission. He's Schrodinger's Candidate: in a state of simultaneously holding every possible policy position - right up until we open the box.

Or maybe he's Heisenberg's candidate: if you know where he stands on foreign policy, you cannot know what he's going to do to the ECA; if you pin him down on Kyoto, you forget his stance on Kiwisaver. And so forth.

A quantum theory of politics. Love it.

I saw Obama on the DS and thought he was great, albeit tired. But who wouldn't be after 2 years on the road as Michelle Obama said the week before when she was on.Not to mention the RW blogaquarium going into frenzied Apeshit mode. check out the Atlas Shrugged website where Pam Geller is putting forward the idea that Obama is the secret love child of Malcolm X .
These people have killed parody in the bathtub, chopped it up and are driving around at 2am dropping the body parts in various watercourses. -

I'll second that. 'Schrodinger's Candidate' is worth a few bags for Emma, if not a whole damn machine. Too perfect.

Did you catch Jenni McManus after the TV3 election debate last night saying that the financial crisis coverage isn't gloomy enough yet?
