You wouldn't want a jubilant pisshead anywhere near a tank, after all. :)

…for the Thought Police.
I would agree that there are situations when the authorities are so tyrannical and oppressive that violent rebellion is justified. Syria, for example. But I would argue that New Zealand, for all its faults and abuses of Police power, is very far from that. Therefore I do not consider advocating for people to douse cops in petrol and set them on fire. Advocating laying a complaint with the IPCA or peacefully protesting outside the relevant police station or going to the media or writing to MPs, fine, because in New Zealand there are ways to call abusive cops and other authority figures to account, and those ways are not perfect, but they are there and do sometimes work.
Richard Prosser found himself in trouble not for advocating violence against Muslims, but for banning them from airlines. So how is advocating violence against cops acceptable?

Nope. Read it very carefully. It says the author hopes the thugs’ womenfolk get subjected to the same treatment at the hands of other badge-wearing jackbooted thugs, and then goes on to suppose that said womenfolk get that treatment at the hands of these jackbooted thugs when those thugs get home.
FFS, Matthew, can you acknowledge that there are PASers who’ve been on the receiving end of domestic abuse who really really shouldn’t be expected to micro-parse that kind of shit.
But wait, Emma, I’ve got some words for you too…
But my gut on the ones you quoted is that the first three stay and the fourth one goes, because it advocates domestic violence. And fuck, not to put too fine a point on it, that shit.
And advocating burning anyone to death isn’t fuck-that-shit-out-of-here worthy? Really? REALLY? I don't think it's a terribly fine ethical question for Counties-Manukau Police to say "if we're going to have a Facebook page, it's not cool to have content that contains threats of physical abuse against anyone."

One of the clearest dividing lines between free speech and hate speech is the outright incitement of lethal violence - or the endorsement, overt or covert, of morally indefensible acts of them (like the Breivik shootings).
We're not about to go the way of Syria or Northern Ireland anytime soon, but we have had mass civil disobedience à la 1981.

Of course I can acknowledge it, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let people use an incorrect interpretation to justify removing only one of a multiplicity of offensive posts.
If Emma had wanted to pull the posts that advocated for violence, I wouldn’t have uttered a peep except maybe a question about where the line is on defining “advocated for”. She didn’t, though, she gave a specific ground for pulling a specific post and that specific ground was wrong. Which, as you went on to observe, meant that she was apparently fine with people wanting to douse cops in petrol and set them alight, because a clear message advocating immolation is OK while a message that might mean the author wants someone’s mother to be beaten is not. -

an incorrect interpretation
I'd say you're the one who has misread it, but happy to let other readers decide that for themselves. Life's too short, etc.
And I would pull all the posts advocating violence - with you on that.

complete with the international romance
Leeza Gibbons was the co-host of the notoriously awful 1987 Goftas, but it wasn't until the 1988 Telethon where she met her Corrie star husband-to-be Chris Quinten. Unless the international Gofta romance was between John Inman and...

Now we're microparsing Emma's indication of which facebook posts she'd remove on a facebook page that she has nothing to do with? Naughty theoretical facebook admin!

Jesus. I've just noticed one comment still on the Facebook page that is so vile I actually don't even want to paste it in here. We've been assured that there is a national police social media strategy, but if there is it's not apparent to me.

Matthew Poole, in reply to
A strategy ain't the same as a policy, though, Russell. Someone will be getting nervous about being tagged as a censoring fascist if they remove these vile posts, so is dithering in the face of a lack of clear guidelines on what's acceptable.

Russell Brown, in reply to
Yes. But what took them far too long to do was have their own voice in the discussions. It was like there was no one owning the place, and that's the kind of place that gets vandalised.

In the context of a discussion about electronic habitats, that's unintentionally hilarious.

heh. some geeks would even call it tautologous

Some people really don't like the police. Some people hate the police. These attitudes have been in existance about as long as there have been police.
Censoring dialogue that expresses this is the height of stupidity.

Sacha, in reply to
If you allow abusive language in any online space, you get more of it. People take cues about what is OK, hence Kiwibog and other such sewers.
I don't envy the Police having to deal with that reality as well as their role as a public agency who should be held to account by citizens. This was mentioned on Media3.

A while ago I updated the Wikipedia page for NZ film and television awards.
Was was that YOU who made The Moas page? I was always impressed how quickly it was updated, then perplexed when I realised we weren't doing it...
-
Also, I've just put the whole awards up, available on-demand . here
