  • TroyHoward,

    re: 1/2BPOTUS

    I agree with you Gareth...

though it does raise an interesting dilemma. The colour of his skin does matter.

Imagine if his mother was black and dad was white, and his skin colour was really really tanned not as black as it is.

What then? Would he be called "Black" then?
    .
    ....

lets just forget the BPOTUS...he is an AAPOTUS.

  • TroyHoward,

    WOAH Craig....let's not go there.....

I'm just expressing thoughts about the the whole labelling thing in general.

I'm a little speechless... but I understand where your coming from.

  • mark taslov,

Mark: The only way to do that is repeal the Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution.

Yeah, I hear you craig, it's nothing short of wishful thinking, but a man's gotta dream...glad you showed up when you did. I haven't been so systematically maligned since the abortion debate.

  • Gareth Ward,

Craig, I thinking you're over-reading my comment if you think I was being offensive. It was an honest view of how the US (and a lot others) use the label...
To suggest I was trying to question his "colouredness" or anything to do with apartheid is the offensive piece mate.

Heh, I can see it now "Is it 'cos I is white?"

  • LegBreak,

Moving away from the race discussion and moving onto something far more interesting.

IMHO Michelle Obama will be the hottest First Lady of all time.

Just a personal opinion; always thought Jackie Kennedy was slightly overrated.

  • Gareth Ward,

No need to thank me - I think Craig may have just misinterpreted what I wrote.
Easy to come across the wrong way in 8-point text only :>

Can get we just fucking get over it? His mother is white, his father is black. He's of mixed-race heritage like a lot of people in this world (myself included), and however "honest" other people's racial neurotics are, it's time to grow up. And to be honest, one of the more distasteful features of the campaign was seeing a nasty underside of black racism, with the whole shtick about whether Obama was "black enough" or "acting white".

  • mark taslov,

giovanni, danielle, sam F etc re:drones, brainwashed and mindless.

John Key's presidential-style flying tour hit its first hiccup this afternoon as the National leader was met in Christchurch by Labour supporters chanting "the world is voting left".

    the world is voting left.

Craig..that's kinda the point I think we were trying to make. The whole labelling thing was getting ridiculous.

It's kind of hard to tell, because you seem to be spoiling for a fight so hard you're incoherent.

  • Gareth Ward,

Craig, you're discussing the use of black/white definitions there but telling us to stop doing the same?

I agree with everything you said there, so please direct the vitriol elsewhere, thanks.

Oh crap - peace breaks out again. Try calling me a liberal lick-spittle, that always roils the blood. :)

    the world is voting left.

Except in Canada. Still, if I was Key I'd be damn chuffed an opposition rentamob was trrying to stir it up. You worry when your opponents have decided you're not enough of a threat to bother with.

And if I was that way inclined, I know one GMILF I'd be courting next time I'm down Christchurch way:

National supporter Judith Parrot, 75, said she had been pushed by Labour supporters and she had pushed back.

"I'll push them around too, I can be very vocal. I've been working for National since 1975 and I'm still doing it.''

Do not fuck with the Tory Battleaxe -- their skins are leathery, and elbows sharpened from decades of sales seasons.

  • mark taslov,

hi stephen judd, how are you? maybe in the second paragraph of my initial post i came closest to saying something like that and latterly after the abuse started and whatnot i said something along similar lines, but no, that's not what i was initially saying at all, , i naively wrote a single post,
    essentially saying:

    1. there wasn't as much fuss when a female was elected to PM in NZ
    2. politicians are liars
    3. winston's maybe the closest NZ has ever come to having a maori PM
    3. obama received a lot of donations, and winston has been put through the wringer for accepting 'illegal' donations, whatever that really means.
    4. doubting that the NZ media will make as much fuss when a maori becomes NZ PM
    5. Obama has good teeth and words
6: people care alot hence "the world is voting left!" (above)
    7. 2 days out from NZ election and where's Russell?
8 congratulations to the obama campaign
    9. the Major NZ parties are still on the whole indistinguishable
    10. between elections life returns to much the same kind of scenario as you get in a totalitarian countries except you have enforced drinking age.
    11. I'm worried that Russell isn't here, because i need his spiritual guidance.
    12. small portion of the world voting left on Saturday is preferable.

mainly inspired by the link someone made the other day to the other day, "I'm over obama", and the fact that the US election has been dully predictable.

    i'm not spoiling for a fight at all, wasn't/ haven't been/ etc
i had no idea drone would get turned into brainwashed and giovanni would tell me i'm wanking on. was just writing my thoughts I've got no reason to fight, no vote to cast, no party to support, it's just another day in another week here, I'm not really interested in the US election, but I'm interested in the NZ election, cos that's kind of close to home. sure i'll be the projected enemy if danielle and whoever wants it, but it's mainly just a misperception of opinions proffered that aren't people's shiz. and thanks for asking stephen, I've always felt regret that you gave up on me so early on in the abortion thing, sure i don't write what people always want to hear, but i think my thoughts are as valid as anyone elses and while i attack systems and abstracted groups, you'll never see me cast the first stone in a personal attack on the internet.

I'm just not really that way inclined, hence the rather benign nature of the insults i use online.

i've been out of that citizen verses citizen lop a little too long to really have much in the way of personal aggreession of miffiness about this kind of thing, i'm always just a little shocked when people start calling me a wanker or whatever for writing something that i feel. But i duly understand that the nature of elections does bring that tendency out in people

the initial post was on page 40

  • Joe Wylie,

    joe what?
i'm reacting to the number of headlines and articles centred around the fact that he's not white. beyond that i'm not interested in his ancestory. like i said above, not a 'black' man, but a 'good' man. as a real piece of work you mean, someone who is over the US election and focused on the NZ election?

Did you see those offending headlines and articles here at PA? Nope, you popped in to strut your fine, focused & ever-so-politically-buffed mind. Forget my post, Mark. It was made before I realised that you're "special".
