The same story was just as wothy of an inquiry during 2006, 2007 or 2008.
The present story -- with Meurant's helpful notes -- didn't emerge until last week.
What form could the Labour Party possibly use to start demanding an inquiry in 2009 without looking like hypocrites?
Hypocrisy is a lesser sin in Opposition, if that's where they end up: National being thoroughly in bed with the racing industry in 2005 hardly stopped it from pursuing Peters on it.
And anyway; the Greens announced their desire for such an inquiry today -- along with their refusal to share a Cabinet with Peters, which is looking like a safe but tasty stand of principle.
Any more revelations about Peter Dunne would be interesting.

Something scandalous I saw with my own eyes today was 3 red cars driving down Ponsonby Road - all pulling trailers with 'Vote Labour' billboards on them. Not the 'greenest' of campaign ideas I woulda thought.

Slim to nothing, I'm afraid. He really does command the respect of his electorate, as an electorate MP.
So I'm told by everyone I know who lives there (except for the wife oif the National party candidate last election, she wasn't so impressed).

Just occasionally it'd be nice to hear people starting an investigation because it was the right thing to do to help protect our democracy.

OK, I'm over that now. You're right, it would be nice for oversight of the politicians to occur because it's "the right thing to do". But look at how unpopular it was just getting rid of the lifetime perks that came with being a retired pollie, and that was just about money. Things that deal with reputation are even more unpopular.

I'd like to know his view on why Obama has stopped mentioning Net Neutrality as part of his technology platform and where he thinks the Obama administration (__if elected etc__...) would stand on this issue.
Obama used to be vocally pro-neutrality, but lately - not a squeak. Most notably in the latest web ad on his sci/tech policies:

I've just rung Phil Twyford and asked "what part of we're not going to vote for you anyway, so please stop sending us snail-spam was hard to understand - twice?" You try to do some people a favour, and end up wondering why you bother.

We've received three or four things from Rodders/Act, and one from whoever it is that Labour's putting up. Nothing from Worthless that I've seen, and the other parties don't really try and contest Epsom except in the most token of fashions.

Bog-standard letter from Labour here, and another from ACT. The latter including a hilarious step-by-step guide to electing not just a change of government but "a government of change", using clip-art images to replace certain key words in a wacky visual style! What'll they think of next?

New Espiner: Peters thrown under the bus:
Meanwhile it looks like Clark is all but abandoning Winston Peters and she’s shifted the Maori Party and the Greens up to the front-ranked cabs. She told Sky TV’s meet the leaders’ debate last night that she thought it would be extremely difficult for Peters to hit 5% and that the polls indicated he wouldn’t win Tauranga.
Now we all know that, but it’s another thing to say it. She also endorsed the Greens, saying “their time has come” and for good measure agreed to the entrenchment of the Maori seats.
What Clark is trying to do now is send a signal to NZ First voters not to waste their vote and to tick Labour if they want to avoid National getting in. She has waited until the final week to do this, in case it looked like NZ First could hit 5% but it looks like she’s now cutting them adrift.

Yup. Winston will be missed for his antics, and he's definitely achieved far more for seniors than anyone else would ever even have tried, but to paraphrase Craig he's been thoroughly confirmed as a pathological liar with these latest revelations. Quite what this will do to the final numbers remains to be seen.
And, of course, there's still the potential wild card of the Rimutaka election. In the absence of a popular incumbent, it could potentially end up going to Mark. That would drag Winnie straight back in again, since NZF is pretty much certain to get list votes sufficient to entitle them to at least two MPs, if not three or four. -

Only when their policies agree with Craig's, I suspect. Personally I don't want any of it, particularly when we've got a big "Addressed mail and local papers only" sign on the letterbox, but there's no point complaining since political spam is an excepted category. Pity.

Once, perhaps. But I think a civil phone call (yes, I can do polite) asking to be taken off your fucking mailing list should do the job unless you really really think pissing potential voters off is anything but counter productive. . I don't know if Wayne's asleep, but any competently run campaign should come to the conclusion that party members don't really need the hard sell. And if they do, you've got issues direct mail aren't going to fix.

If I was getting campaign spam from the National Party, I'd be really pissed off they were wasting resources, money and the time of volunteers on a household that should be marked down as deep blue.
