Hard News: Friday Music! 'Tis the Season

  • Mike O'Connell,

There's much cool stuff also unfolding in the Garden City - try this tonight, Good Vibrations a FREE sound artists party at the Art Gallery which includes Michael Morley, Instant Fantasy, New Dawn (Indy Force and Anita Clark duo) and Skew-whiff MD and Mr Christopher Stone.

Did I say Michael Morley...also, tomorrow evening, a rare outing by those 'grand old men of meaningless noise', the Dead C at that growing live venue of choice, the Lyttelton Coffee Company - the Dead C with Greg Malcolm.

  • Gareth Shute,

Speaking of Stinky Jim ... He's one of a bunch of writers that have contributed to the New Zealand Hip Hop week set of articles that Noisey/Vice are running currently.

At the very least, check out the hilarious word association vid that features SWIDT, Randa, etc:

And I'm not just saying this because I wrote something for it..

Here are those grand old men of...meaningful noise. Don't know what it was called but it was one 45-50 minute continuous roller-coaster track - fucking brilliant!

I note that the NY Times Bestseller book Love is a Mixtape (2007) by Rolling Stone staff writer Rob Sheffield includes a selection of Flying Nun acts including The Bats, Chills, Verlaines, Dead C and OMC from NZ as well!
I think there is even a spotify playlist based on them - but i can't be sure 'cos I've never signed up!
