Hi, the Apple Pie Bed embed is missing (for me).
Love the contrast between DD and DH - both great.
Happy Splore. -

try this link:
https://soundcloud.com/lawrence-arabia/apple-pie-bed-demo...if it was a wine (or cider) I'd say:
"lightly sparkling, with glints of Nilsson and Wilson, from the Beatlesque gravels, a good vintage. Cellar plenty. Quaff often!"
or something like that
:- )I've just 'discovered', and have been enjoying, Warren Ellis's* excellently curated ambient music podcasts, not to mention his and Paul Duffield's FreakAngels web comic
*That's the comic-writing Warren Ellis, not the musician one in The Bad Seeds and Grinderman.

Thanks. my internet was behaving a bit oddly yesterday – I thought it had loaded. Fixed now!

Guess which one I immediately thought of?

The thing that was really crap about FreakAngels was that it finished. Loved it and loved waiting for the next edition (A whole week?? Gods dammit !). Might be time to reread (again)

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about FreakAngels. So good.

I found it via
my local library
wouldn't surprise me if Scorpio Books stock it as well, now they have a new home in 'town'.
(heck, I remember Scorpio when it was Pisces and out in Fendalton...) -
I just listened to all the Taite finalists in a row... one could be forgiven for thinking it was an audition for a new Lynch movie, well that was my first reaction, anyway since I'd gone to the trouble of searching out the clips, here they are, hear for yourself.
SJD, Saint John Divine
Nadia Reid, Listen to Formation, Look for the Signs
Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Multi-Love
Princess Chelsea, The Great Cybernetic Depression
The Phoenix Foundation, Give Up Your Dreams
Anthonie Tonnon, Successor
Marlon Williams, Marlon Williams
Silicon, Personal Computer
Silicon, Burning SugarOh yeah, if you can spot the mistake, there's a reason for it ;-)
Happy SPLORE and PRIDE weekend. -
I love Anthonie Tonnon's 'Successor'. Such great music for long road trips. Even more impressed to receive friendly emails from him, when I asked about future gigs,

I read the news today, oh boy…
http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music/gig-reviews/77104624/review-raggamuffin-2016-a-night-of-noshows-rejigs-and-reggaeRaggamuffin organisers must be dreaming if they’d thought The Game would get through NZ Customs unquestioned – despite promoters lying to punters telling them the rapper had missed his flight from Dubai (something you’d think they’d have known at least 17 hours earlier than his performance slot) transpires he was stopped at NZ Customs, and promoters knew, but chose not to tell punters until 5pm Saturday.
I wonder if all the pictures of marijuana joints and buds on his instagram page helped his cause any?
And really, what hope for the later NZ dates they’ve ‘promised’ then? The Stuff reporter/reviewer (Ashley Ropati), despite I assume free tickets and publicity hand outs, still can’t even spell the acts and festival correctly:
Ragamuffin instead of Raggamuffin (2nd-to-last paragraph)
Macey Gray instead of Macy Gray
See-Lo Green instead of CeeLo Green
(and I wouldn’t strictly call CeeLo’s cancelling in October ’a late no-show’ either)they also write about a situation being ‘diffused’ – aaaargh!!!

Thanks for the link to the history of Charles Begg and Co, Russell. I remember a lot of musos in ChCh used to hang out there, including Neville Claughton who worked there for many years. In particular I recall seeing Eddie Hansen and other members of the as-yet unknown band Ticket jamming instore back in the late sixties.
