  • Hugh Wilson,

I saw Bill Brewster is also heading down under, and has shows in AKL and Waiheke on Feb 2nd and 3rd ... promo seems a bit light at the mo, but may be of interest to some

Oh, cool. He's visited before (and asked around for crate-digging spots) but didn't play.

  • davesparks,

Deadly Valentine has been owning my Spotify real heavy, but I must admit an unusually strong partialness to the Soulwax remix rather than the orig (or radio edit). It's just a little tweak, but as is their fashion most compelling. I may or may not be recommending you just play the 3 versions in turn looped over and over again as an hours-long hypnotic concept album. XD

  • tim,

I detest ads on Youtube so if the new change means everyone except very popular vids disable monetization then as a viewer it is actually for the better? (& maybe can then stop paying for YT Red)

"Worse, YouTube will continue to place ads against their content – they just won’t get a sliver of it."

I can't imagine why anyone who would leave monetization on in this scenario - why would you make your viewers suffer through ads for zero gain?

Did they say something that makes you think this will be optional?

  • Farmer Green,

" musical artists have been obliged to expend some of their precious creative essence on new ways to earn the money that would allow them to continue being musical artists,"

Yeah, "back -in-the-day" , that was called getting a job.

    WTF?

Self-expression has rarely been a marketable commodity. A fortunate(?) few became the cannon-fodder for the "music industry", and were disposed of when their usefulness waned.

But seriously, art is for making money? Whoa, something has changed.

At the least, you’ll have to leave monetisation on in order to be considered for monetisation …

Billboard has a nice pre-Grammys interview with Lorde – along with a photoshoot of her gadding about a Pukekohe farm in various lovely frocks.

  • Yamis,

That's the Jonkers farm in Waitakere (West Auckland). Puketotara is the name of the hill/mountain on it.

It's a beautiful farm that overlooks Bethells Swamp and out to Bethells beach. If anybody remembers the TV series Black Beauty from about 25 years ago it was filmed on the farm along with some other productions.

Spent several summers in my teens helping make hay there. :)

Don't worry Ian, you don't look the same age and that's the main thing.

  • Ian Dalziel,

Very sad to hear of Grant Fell's death.

Shame Stuff can't get a simple tweet transcript right (or spell Rachael's surname correctly- as in yesterday's piece) - such disrespect.
