  • Paul Williams,

The remix of Blue Monday, 'O' for awesome.

It might be sacrilegious, but the Kylie mix of Blue Monday and Can't Get You Out of My Head is pretty cool too (youtube audio here).

Not at all. I've always loved that one.

  • Sacha,

Heard via Charlotte Ryan on bfm this brief burst of local smartness:

Randa's one of those shockingly young, talented people that make you wonder what you're doing with your own life. I heard an interview with her on bFM a month or so ago and started listening to her soon afterwards. She's the newest generation of musos making quality music out of their bedrooms, in her case literally.

Oh thank god! It has been my secret shame for so long.

One does wonder why she performed Locomotion at the Royal Reception the other day though. Really? You couldn’t have brought it into this millennium, at least? Actually, guess I answered my own question.

Since we’re being indulgent (well, I am) if you are a fan of The Cure, and you haven’t watched this 13.47min version of A Forest yet, then I suggest you do.

Not related to the music, but on the other popular Friday topic of drugs. Some of you may be interested in this seminar on Sunday by reknowned ethnobotanist turned psycologist Dr Dennis McKennaon on DMT and its Place in Nature. It's being held at the Auckland Medical School and details can be found here.

There is way too much of that in 2012.

  • Russell Brown,

The shred genre -- replacing the music in music videos with something farcical, edited nicely -- has come to my attention.

Also, it has come to New Zealand. The Adults, as you've never heard them before:

I saw the Cure at the Town Hall many years ago, one of the biggest let downs ever - talk about lack of on stage patter. Every song was prefaced with "This one's called ..." and your own Manc accent.

The Cure concert at the Chch town hall 1980 was amazing. Hard to imagine now, a song like A Forest being top of the charts and on Ready To Roll every week.

    my secret shame

I've basically decided "fuck it" and that there should be no secret shames. The very concept of the secret shame must die!

I notice none of the ads for concerts these days (and there are a lot!) dare to mention the prices, not even a whisper of a starting price....
... not like the good old days (see above) - one whole dollar for an afternoon of Toy Love and and The Hookers! (from a prototype set of 24 cards that may, or may not, be available at the weekend - hopefully at Real Groovy Ak)

  • mark taslov, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

That's a beauty, thanks for posting Ian. I think the pricing on concert posters vanished around the time New Zealand music month became one long corporate seminar held by retired musicians, in part due to one such seminar entitled "don't mention the price".
