Also just up on AudioCulture, this seems timely.
Ian showed me all the original drawings for these last week when I visited him and Chris.

Ladies and gentlemen… please excuse the diversion but in the spirit of Friday posts, I commend to you one Philomena Cunk, an extremely funny woman. There are five embedded videos on this Guardian page and they’re all worth watching.
Enjoy!

God I love her. She and Charlie Brooker haven't really made it to the telly here for some reason. Too pommy possibly? Thank Jeebus for the internet.
Best of luck to all concerned with Opportunity Knox. It's yeoman work and needs to be done.

We did get Charlie Brooker's excellent Black Mirror series on Sky with its magical premonition of Prime Minister Pig-Fucker, but that's pretty much it. British tele is still the least worst in the world and it's a pity we don't see more of it here.
While I have some excellent memories of Chris Knox from his Dunedin days and edited all of his early videos, sadly I don't have any of his graphic material. Good luck with the project Ian et al... Chris's contribution to kiwi culture deserves to be recorded for posterity.

Grafix Knox scanning
They’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who can offer access to an A2 scanner.
Actually even an A3 scanner (or SRA3) would help them in their digitising endeavours immensely (they're currently doing Herculean work with an A4 scanner and a stitch program - very time consuming though) - contact them to liaise if you have one they could borrow or have easy access to, handy to town (Auckland).
-
any readers who have unique pieces of Knox artwork or paraphernalia that could be included in the book
I just spotted a reference to Jesus On A Stick Sedgewick - Teddy X on a Stick on a site called Bored In A Record Shop. At the time (2014) the author couldn't place which JOAS it came from. Or if it came from another CK work.
Anyone know for sure? How many were in the JOAS series BTW? I still have a solitary copy of #3.
-
Surely any CK will have to feature the cover art from Fall in a Hole?! Talking of which, 'Happy Fall guitarist' Marc Riley, in his dulcet Salford tones, has interviewed (second time in a year) Lyttelton songstress Aldous Harding - who is BTW recording her second album with John Parish of PJ Harvey, Sparklehorse etc collaboration fame, in July. She knocks out recent compositions I'm So Sorry and Horizon in and among some amusing banter. There's a mutual 'declaration of love' to close!
And it's Friday so here's Marc and the lads, totally wired in NYC 1981

even an A3 scanner would help
Those are pricey, but I got an A3 MFD from Officeworks for under $300 a few years ago. I assume functions other than scanning work, but I bought it as part of my "rip and scan all my CDs" project and it works well for that. There's this Epson one that's only $220 (I dunno what brand mine is). The A3 dedicated scanners I found were over $1000, so I figured I could go through a few of the MFDs before it was more expensive... that was five years and over 500 CDs ago :)
I also use the sheet-feeder, and a few times have destructively scanned things (the Gregorian giant book of pictures, for example), or pulled and replaced staples. FWIW when doing that it helps to quickly take photos of the whole thing first so it's easier to re-assemble double page images. If your book has those and no page numbers.

Paul Sutherland (in Into the Void in his spare time) may know how to access an A3 scanner. I think he's behind the Christchurch City Libraries music poster collection which no doubt has involved a fair amount of scanning. Mostly Chch band posters from Gladstone, Star and Garter 80s era, some Clean but no CK or Tall Dwarfs..

This has been for sale in Grey Lynn for a while now with no takers. Unfortunately it has pre-USB SCSI or parallel connections, which could require somewhat advanced computer smarts. From memory, if it's still working as claimed a mid 90s Mac should happily drive it. Apart from it lacking a USB port it appears the same as my old A3 size X12USL, which passed away around 3 years ago.

Hundreds of Auckland musicians appeared at the Alhambra, … including Larry Morris
Who you can catch live at the Grey Lynn RSC in Francis Street tonight (friday the 13th) if you have a friend who is a member.
I loved the illusion of the Alhambra, and its transition from Three Lamps Plaza to Moroccan Role play….

New Chelsea Jade! I’m not sure whether it was recorded in New Zealand or in her new base in LA.
That's a sweet little track.
Is LA the new Grey Lynn? Seems like all the cool kids are re-locating and honing their craft, or something.
It's almost inevitable that Anthonie Tonnon and Nadia Reid will be next.
In the mean time, I'm off to see Avoid Avoid at the Whammy Backroom, if I can stay awake long enough.

Actually even an A3 scanner
Ian we have an up-to-A3 printer/scanner bought three months ago that you can use if wanted. Dunno much about it: I can email you the specs if you are good at wrangling them. (I haven't used it for much yet and maybe only a couple of scans.) Has card slots and stuff.

all for $4
That was my rent in 1979.

I believe there were 4 total issues of Jesus on a Stick, but not positive. Last issue I have is #4. I have #1, #3 and #4 if scans are required. National Library appears to only have #1.

Important Correction:
The contact re 'Knoxiana' and scanners should be to
kyle@beatnikpublishing.comMy error, 1,000 apologies.
- could this be changed in the main story asap,
perhaps another moderator could do this if Russell is away. -

Thanks Hebe, but it needs to be in Auckland, I was just collating the material to be scanned for the Auckland publishers...

aaah yes, I forgot how inflation took off in the late 20th century - those were indeed 'the days'!

...John Parish
Said Mr Parish has recently produced an artist I hadn't heard of before, another Mali export Rokia Traoré. She sings mostly in French and her native Bamana. Here's Tu Vole (You Fly)
Plus on that same 2016 album Né So, that song made so memorable by Billie Holiday

Chelsea Jade has just explained the track's provenance on her mailing list:
i've been kicking around los angeles for about six months now.
when my birthday arrived this week, i decided to crack a light leak on a sliver of what I've been up to.'colour sum' was built with sam mccarthy in a converted laundry room underneath the echo park house that I now live in, before I lived in it.
i wrote it about wanting to be back in this house while i was far away in another, and how the light ricocheting around my old room felt like it was being thrown across that distance like a token.

SCSI to USB adaptors are a thing, we have an ancient densitometer that connects nicely with one of these: http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/U2SCX.html
As with anything SCSI, it can take a bit of fluffing around, but it does the trick.
