Sisters, doing it for themselves..
I was switched on this by Graham Reid:
My partner loved Baskery at the Australian Woodford Folk Festival a while back, fabulous live act by all accounts, she even bought the CD!

Oh, wow. This is gorgeous.

Loved Lucinda and Elvis doing Wild Horses but somehow I always come back to this cover version.

Just paste in the long URL, not the youtu.be one. Nothing else.

This site only recognises the full address, not the shortnd one you have used. Type or paste it without adding any of those square brackets and it is automatically converted to an embedded clip.

She and David Gavurin (husband and other half of the Sundays) settled into a very private retirement from the music business to raise their family after they had their second child.
I just fell in love with the sound of that band from the first time I heard them. I still regulary find myself in the mood for "Reading, Writing & Arithmatic" and play it fairly often. Especially this song:

Been around a while now, but still a fave. -

And on the subject of country-ish music, I love this single from First Aid Kit's The Lion's Roar. It's my pick of the album.
Lilith, you are a star for posting this, I hadn't heard it before. Now I've been spending all afternoon watching/listening to First Aid Kit videos on YT.
Have just read in the comments that the video was filmed at the place in Joshua Tree National Park where Gram Parsons' friends cremated him in 1973 - the cross and shrine they're kneeling at is the one maintained by his fans at the exact spot where it happened. Awesome...

the kids are alright…
another Scandinavian stand out all girl group that excelled and entertained at the Woodford folk festival were the multitalented Norwegians Katzenjammer.
they remind me of that wonderful old Aussie band
The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band… -
I’ve probably posted this here before, but speaking of Scandinavia, anyone wishing to explore the music of Icelandic bands that are not Sigur Ros can go to the dedicated website. Just what it says on the tin!
Created by The Department of Icelandic Things, which is awesome.

Since we're in Scandinavia, let's have some Nordic goodness then.

Me too.
Since we're going back, The Sundays always bring to mind Cowboy Junkies for me.
Should wait for tomorrow maybe...

Oh, Cowboy Junkies, wow. I remember wearing out my tape (!) of Black-Eyed Man back in the early 90s. And some of their later releases were also wow.
Some of them were more edgy, like this one:
They used to have an e-mail newsletter called Junk Mail. I don’t know how many people actually received it, it was generally gobbled up by my spam-filter. :-)

Belatedly, me three! That album is one of my forever go-tos.

More belatedly, anyone else remember Bettie Serveert?
I had their album Palomine back in 92-93 and quite liked it.
