Elvis Costello and Lucinda Williams covering the Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’
Nice one! I’ve very much enjoyed Costello’s show Spectacle on DVD. I don’t always enjoy his covers, but sometimes he’s magic, and he brings out some fantastic performances from his guests. I think they respond to a peer in a way they wouldn’t to a ordinary host.

And on the subject of country-ish music, I love this single from First Aid Kit's The Lion's Roar. It's my pick of the album.

3410,
If you listen closely, this would appear to be a stereo mix, but it’s not. It’s two different mono channels.
Two different mono mixes synced-up, I think he's saying.

3410,
Since we're on Home Brew, this* programme was strangely affecting.

Thanks Lilith, that’s rather lovely…
Since when has Sweden been a bastion of country-folk?
I was switched on this by Graham Reid:

Hi, this was broadcast on the radio in two parts, but is online as one, so that's the full Tom Travelogue right there... there have been other shows in the 'Adventures in Musicland' series, but I think this is probably what you mean..?
cheers -
Heh .. remember seeing Lee Perry at the Hammersmith in 1991 ..... the man was definitely receiving signals on a different frequency than anyone else that night.

(There were other eps, but I can't find them).Tom's vocal style on that was essentially half-tempo rapping. It was kind of a revelation, actually. And it gave me an idea ...

Yep. Ta for the clarification.

Since ages - they love their Americana up there. Part of the reason jazz is also so popular in Sweden; that, and seasonal affective disorder.

Lilith, I saw First Aid Kit last night; they are fucking awesome! I'd strongly recommend seeing them if they cross the ditch. Hard to believe they're 21 and 19 respectively.

Last time First Aid Kit was mentioned I meant to post that they played in Wellington for the Arts Festival on 8 March, to mixed results.

He really does a give a fig, as Jolisa said..

I seed what you did there.

Thanks Mark, figured a couple of Swedes would tour both NZ and Australia having made the journey south. They played last night with just a drummer which works since its their voices and harmonisation that is, for me, so appealing.

It's thanks to Graham Reid and his Elsewhere that I heard about Spectacle! And thanks to RB that I encountered First Aid Kit. Thanks for that, yous are awesome.

Busy lad, Russell. You forgot about the NZOS meeting last Monday?

Hee, 'The Real Nitty Gritty' sounds WAY different! And nifty! Please keep finding remixes of awesome older pop songs I like, Russell. KTHX.

Thanks 3410, I enjoyed that, I love his accent to bits.

A bit late to this, but I have to say; dear lord that's a lot of goodness you've piled on for us Russell. Spoiled.

The Home Brew controversy makes the paper. Lolz.

You're welcome!
I've been trundling around on various Saturday errands today, and I have been loving that tune in the car.
