  • Luke Williamson,

Also, I have an urge to make a joke around the phrase "Higg's Bosoms". But I feel that would be an adolescent thing to do.

I resisted and resisted and then you did it for me Russell. Had something in mind like, "I hear Mrs Higgs' Bosons are enough to put one in a spin".

Fashion, Novelty and Optimality: An application from Physics

So getting dressed in the dark is a sign of superior intellect? Sweet.

  • Luke Williamson,

I have a gut feeling that Burkhard Heim may yet be proven to be correct. Now that would be very interesting.

    Great link thanks.

  • horse,

Personally, I find all of mine very handy for holding the universe together.

    No, that's the gaffer tape.

  • Grace Dalley,

Paul, I have just the recipe for you: Easter Quark Cake

If you don't have enough subatomic particles in your pantry to make this recipe, you can substitute kwark. Less exciting, I know, but it probably tastes better.

  • Islander,

Waaay too much sugar in the original recipe but severely reducing that & following Grace Dalley's suggestion, you could end up with an interesting cheese-cake-

  • recordari,

Worship the cheese! When our youngest was asked 'What's Easter for?' she replied, 'new life for cheeses'.

We're starting a cult, although the latest Hitch-hikers book has this one covered, so not original, unfortunately. Anyway, I like the old cheeses.

  • Islander,

Eoster = death & fecundity: cheeses sound good- I am about to build myself the ultimate easter sandwich: wildharvested mushrooms from here, tomatoes/eggs/basil from here - and, just for the zing of it - a genuine unpasteurised Roquefort (goodness knows what that will do for the sceptic tank.)

The thing stands several feet tall and it will take me until Monday to gnaw my way through it-

And they say there's no evidence of a higher level of existence? That was one law change I won't be complaining about any time soon.

  • jb,

Never retire until you have a succession plan.

    And talking of physicists...

I have 2 as fairly good friends

The classic scruffy sort who continue to do physics and create general havoc http://bit.ly/d0Ufbn http://bit.ly/cTWvgI

The other sort who use their profound intellect in business. My ex-CEO at a major aviation group company, for example. His CPU was so unbelievably fast that you'd just started understanding one marketing concept and he was 4 or 5 steps ahead on something else. Humbling

And they say there's no evidence of a higher level of existence?

Apart from the chance it could elevate you to one?

Nice. A Monty Python reference. How about some Frank Zappa?

I put 'Higgs Boson' in YouTube and this video came up because under the video is the phrase 'Finding Higgs Bosom.' Entropy.

(goodness knows what that will do for the sceptic tank.)

    Was that deliberate? Nice.

A sceptic tank is one in which many new life forms must be independently evolving.

Hadron Collider II planned for Circle Line

London Underground is in talks with the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (Cern) about the possibility of using the 23km tunnel of the Circle Line to house a new type of particle accelerator similar to the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva...
