  • Kyle Matthews,

On the Sunday Star Times piece, the question that I thought would be top, but which was never really asked was... who wrote the editorial, and who made the decision to pull it.

My first thought was that it was going to be a story about a media company stifling an editor and free expression, but that angle wasn't explored or dismissed as irrelevant. I was left wondering who wrote the piece and how they felt about it being cut.

  • BenWilson,

For general edumication, I watched the show on Firefox no problem. Watch those Adblock settings, if you're having troubles.

people who turn shit into chocolate cake

craig, you have such a way with words. can you slip more of these into next week's show? they make great sound bites. maybe trick russell into saying the c word

once again, i thought the show was fantastic. while russell's not nearly as attractive as the news girl who came on afterwards, i thought he was damn good for a first attempt.

I'd beg to differ. :) But as long as 7 News keeps avoiding the gratuitous and meaningless live cross ("I'm standing outside Auckland Hospital, and Sir Ed is still dead") I'll be happy. Ish.

  • Hamboy,

I'm running firefox and have never had a problem running any of the ondemand videos, including Media 7, which I just watched.
    Noticed the product placement. lol

  • InternationalObserver,

An interesting show. I can imagine the pitch: "it's kind of Hard News meets Eating Media Lunch but without the jokes.

I need to loosen up in front of the autocue, but you get that.

You need to experiment with certain 'relaxants' to see how many you can take without looking munted on TV. It worked for that TV3 newsreader.

Failing that, just do what every other TV presenter does: Stand in front of a mirror for ten minutes before going on and repeat the mantra "I am on TV and you're not muthaf...er, I have my own show and you don't, muthaf...er"

Oh god yes please. I thought this was bad a couple of years ago, but now it just seems to be getting worse.

Technology has now apparently moved along, so that people have forgotten that stuff can be pre-recorded and then played later. For me, TV3 news (and TV One I suspect) would be vastly improved if I sent them an $80 video recorder.

Or that it's cheapers and equally uninformative for Reporter X. to tell us all that nothing's going on over a cellphone. You really need to see the aching tedium as well?

  • Peter Ashby,

The pointless cut to live reporter standing pointlessly outside is a universal thing. We bitch about it here in the UK. Especially for some poor sod who for reasons unknown has to be interviewed outside in a howling gale throwing solid stuff in his face while Artics rumble along a few feet behind (seen recently).

Does nobody have a nice space, you know with sofas and a pot plant any more?

When Kay Gregory was paired up with Paul Henry for TV1's Breakfast slot, the team didn't last long - Gregory quit almost immediately after because she couldn't stand Henry!

  • nic.wise,

@russb: just watched the podcast. Really enjoyed it, both the content and the podcast format. Thanks heaps! If needed, a short ad on one or more of the segments would work, I think - if the funding is needed.

Except it lasted quite a while, and they had a great rapport (just one that wasn't based on some form of implied sexual tension).

  • Mark Thomas,

Phil Wallington (on national radio) gave Media7 a good review!
He reckoned it'd get better if your panellists squabbled a bit more :)

Yeah, it was nice getting a good notice from Wallington, who (if my memory serves) has been pretty lukewarm about Freeview etc. But Willie Jackson already does the 'goad alleged adults into trying to scream over each other for half an hour' show. Kind of entertaining, if you're the kind of person who enjoys cock fights, but not particularly insightful.

  • Mark Thomas,

yeah. i don't really like squabbling (must be because i'm a kiwi) - it usually descends into petty point scoring - like most blog forums. if i wanted to hear heated arguments i'd listen to sean plunket.

if media 7 could get the quality of debate that you get on this website, you'd be doing well.

What sexual tension is there now? Does 'Henry can be a dick' count? The only sexual tension is between me and Pippa (this from someone who didn't like her when she first appeared - oh the shame - as soon as the glasses disappeared I fell for her like the sad lonely man I am) ... Ahem.

Gregory only 'left' when TV3 announced their plans for 'Sunrise'. How fortuitous for TVNZ eh that she should 'leave' allowing them to replace her with some young crumpet (to augment the burnt toast that is Henry).

Do you need a room for one and a TV? Don't mind us...
