  • Gabor Toth,

I thought it was great - and I could see you visibly starting to relax during the half-hour.
A couple of minor issues - the guys on the mixing desk need to watch the audio levels as there was a big difference between what was being said in the studio and the inserted clips & stings which were much louder. A frantic grab of the remote control in our household occurred during the first break to avoid waking up my baby daughter who was sleeping nearby. Also that angled shot which occasionally appeared where we see both you and the guests looks a bit awkward (Russell talking into space and the guests not quite sure where to look).
The highlight of the evening for me actually came after Media 7 had finished when the charming young lass reading the 10pm news launched into her broadcast without first attaching her lapel mic. Then a shadowy figure appeared in the background ready to leap into action during the first inserted video clip. I actually found it quite heart-warming and hope no one got a bollocking for it - it added a nice human touch.

  • Russell Brown,

Some of the video -- the ondemand version -- is now up via the microsite, with the MP4 podcast and the YouTube channel due this afternoon. Hopefully it won't take so long to get the content up in future.

  • Jarno van der Linden,

With 6 pictures of you on the front page, I suggest that TVNZ 7 be renamed The Russell Channel.

  • Paul Litterick,

I found the sight of the charming young lass trying to attach her mic curiously erotic, but then I had drunk quite a lot by that stage of the evening.

Media 7 was great. Is this the dawning of a new age of public service broadcasting?

  • daleaway,

Saw the OnDemand version - not. Midnight in a mine. It all looked like beef stew with a couple of slightly paler talking carrots. Missed your manly features, Russell!

The vox pop street bits with natural lighting were perfectly visible, so it must be the set. What colour is the set?

That stew had meaty content, however. A news in brief section would be a good addition.

    Looking forward to your next.

  • FletcherB,

Just watched the on-demand version without problems.

Enjoyed it, looking forward to more. Thanks.

  • Tom Ackroyd,

The podcast link ( http://tvnz.co.nz/Media7PodcastMP4 ) doesn't work in iTunes for me. I get that exclamation mark that usually means the source file can't be found. Maybe they posted the link too early for the content?

  • Tom Ackroyd,

But then you can still *cough* hack *hack* the flv.

  • BenWilson,

Good show. I especially enjoyed seeing Comesky say with a straight face that the C word was totally inappropriate. A lawyer mate of mine has a lot of funny stories about his language in and out of court, and I've been on the turps with him a few times to form my own impressions. But he always said he was a damned good lawyer, a real streetfighter, totally for the client, and especially canny about police shenanigans, having been one himself for many years.

  • Steve Reeves,

    Just watched the programme---very good!

And putting down the comfort pad really did help a lot!

  • Eddie Clark,

As seems to be standard whenever I try to watch anything on TVNZ on demand, I'm told that it is for "New Zealand viewers only". Well I'm a New Zealander and I can't view it here in the wilds of Canada. I joke, but it is quite annoying. I assume that the youtube channel and/or the podcast will be expat-viewable?

  • Steve Baker,

Just watched it on ondemand. I thought it was good, and no doubt will get better as you get into the swing of things.

My only technical criticism was that the echo in the studio made you sound like you were in a big empty room. The acoustics kind of stuck out, so I guess shows like this aspire to complete acoustic deadness.

  • dc_red,

Eddie - try watching the individual clips on the "A taste of Media 7" page. You will also get to hear (I believe) Craig Parker's soothing voice before each clip.

Where exactly is that page? I'm damned if I can find it.

  • Idiot Savant,

All I get from TVNZ OnDemand is endless "loading". Anyone got torrent, or failing that, advice on how to get the bloody thing to work?

  • Eddie Clark,

I found it after much looking and yes, thanks, DC red, it worked.

    Russell, it's this page http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/1684742

From the context, I think it's a first episode sampler/teaser thingy.

  • Eddie Clark,

I/S, does that for me in Firefox. Works fine on IE. "Fine" meaning that it brings up a short video telling me I can't watch it, but I'd assume it would work for you lot in NZ.

How did you find it? Seriously, I need to know. Happily for you, it'll be there every week, but it's kind of a mystery how anyone might discover it.

You might just have to wait for the video podcast or the YouTube (the latter is held up by YouTube having one of its "under maintenance". sulks.

And in the meantime you can watch the individual segments at the elusive A Taste of Media 7 page.

  • Eddie Clark,

    Ummm...

Its on the Media 7 main page, about half way down and on the right. A little picture with you and Simon smiling, with "Video!" above it. Right next to the Media7 blog link.

  • Idiot Savant,

Fortunately (?) I had a copy of IE around, so I can see it there. But why the hell does TVNZ hate firefox?

It was quite good BTW. Next stop: Backbenches.

  • Jackie Clark,

nice, Russell, very nice - no frilly dicky bits and lovely objective questioning from you. It makes you realise just how dumbed down our news in the MSM has become.
