  • David Cormack,

This sounds ridiculous, but there’s a calmer ‘vibe’ to this forum.

Having said that, Kiwiblog has its sonic to inflame the other side, we don’t have an equivalent.

Ahem, there is that chap from New Orleans who can produce steam from a few ears around here….

  • Hamboy,

I think it’s because this blog doesn’t attract that sort of crowd.
The redbaiter and Fred type tend to be pack animals. Need the safety of numbers.
I use to think that type were just people mucking around, but they are far too common. You see them a lot more on American blogs. Just regurgitating the same mindless phrases, without actually saying anything. In fact the only difference is the American ones tend to mention god a lot more.

  • Hamboy,

But then even our friend from New Orleans did start of trying to actually argue something and was reasonably civil.

Could be the mellow colours on the website.
Or perhaps because the link to the comments area is called “Discuss”.
It could confuse them when the blood rushes to their head and so they haven’t figured out how to post.

    lol

  • merc,

Have you ever noticed the complete absence of any psychological references on Kiwiblog, it’s as if everything happens in the world on one very primitive level, but goddamit I’m going to say three things,
    1. narcissism
    2. puer aeternus (peter pan)
    3. mother complex
But I am glad they get a chance to share.

I think he’s been civil all along, and I generally disagree with him but appreciate his willingness to engage. It’s actually been more the case that I’ve had to warn other people for being abusive towards him.

Could be the mellow colours on the website.

    That’ll be it.

    Pastels: so gay.

Alright, it’s me. I can tell you, all that trolling on Kiiwblog and keeping up Hitchens Watch keeps me bloody busy.

But in retrospect, it was a bit OTT when I interviewed myself for my Listener column …

  • Stephen Judd,

Redbaiter has patches of sanity that make me suspect he is more than one person, or perhaps that another regular user has Redbaiter as an amusing sockpuppet and forgets to stay in character.

  • merc,

RB, yowhen you said on KB you’re a Dancing Fool, I spat on my dual geeked out monitors. As for Sonic, I just bow, he ties knots in their heads that Freud couldn’t untie.

  • merc,

RB = Russell = Redbaiter, geddit? And Sonic is DPF, ssshhhhhh.

  • Don Christie,

Actually, I suspect Sonic is Stephen Colbert…

Russell, why would you be against the compulsory carrying of flags?

Is it because you hate freedom?

    Pure gold…

I always wonder how they all find the time. And the emotional energy for that level of hate.

Come to think of how do you all find the time?

Unlikely. Redbaiter’s a relative newbie on Kiwiblog, but he has a long history on the local Usenet newsgroups, so it would be a long act. But agreed, he does occasionally briefly drop out of character.

    You mean for our love?

  • Sonic,

Gotta spread the love span, one day we will pull it off and Redbaiter will fall to earth crying,

” oh my god, they were right all along, how could I have been such a fool for all these years?”

He will then get a job dispensing tea and sympathy in a drop in centre for refugees and become a leading green party activist.

  • Matt Jeffs,

Russell – well said about the ‘sweeping statements’ of Austrlians. I may have been guilty of it in the past but there does seem to be some that are labelling all Australians as knuckle dragging rednecks. Chances are most Australians are likley to be very socially enlightened citizens just as there are some culturally insecure Kiwi’s. You can’t blame an entire population of 20 million people for the occasional rantings of their ill informed leader. Alot, if not most, Austrlaians I work with here in the UK are always keen to distance themselves from the cliched Ocker stereotype. Most of whom cringe whenever Howard opens his mouth.
