Danyl's comment made me laugh out loud, and made me realise that I might have exagerrated slighly about no one here commenting, because actually, people did, here and there. I was a bit wrought up to notice - sorry!

Hadyn, that's ok, I get it all the time. "Ah ya bunny..." this and "what a freakin' rabbit..." that. and some people have accused me of just being in it for the wood shavings and shiney new activity wheels. alac, we soldier on. at least i have here found some sense of community.
i thought we had made Deborah a Bishop already? we can't start giving her absurd titles on top of that, what would Bishop Brian say?

My quoted comment was definitely not directed at you, but at another commenter who I didn't name in an attempt to avoid a personal flame war (though I'd hoped that calling him a newbie might have clarified it enough). I am terribly sorry to hear of your reaction, and do apologise if any ambiguousness in my comments contributed to this. You rock, and I've no complaints. :) :) :)I was trying to say something about abuse in general in the comment from which you drew my quote, though I guess I got it wrong in some way. I'm going to re-read the thread more carefully before commenting further.

I think you've rather missed Deborah's point - she was upset that the only person who she'd noticed remonstrating with what she considered unacceptable behaviour was getting jumped on for his troubles.

As I said, I'm going to re-read the thread more carefully before commenting further. Your point may be correct, but I wanted to say what I said before I spend 40 minutes contemplating what led to the problem. -
I seem to have come to this a little late - I've been running a seminar all day and just read through all the back and forth finally finishing now.
Deborah - you were right to call Craig originally, I would have backed you up 110% (as they say in the All Blacks) had I been here. Sorry I wasn't. I get very fed-up with that pallaver, as you may have picked up from my comments in the post of mine you linked to (thanks!).
I think you were also right to keep calling him on his behaviour afterwards, as were others.
One thing I wonder if it's worth considering. Those of us who have been commenting on pol blogs since before PA System was around do often have a tendency to be more slap-down than necessary, partly because that is the environment "out there" (sadly). I'm not going to pretend to speak for Craig, but I know that's the case for me, and often I start writing something and then remember I'm on PA and delete it all and start again. It's really good that the standards are higher here and long may they be maintained.
Anyway, back to the silliness - apparently I am Sister Katana of Loving Kindness, although I've always preferred to be known as Most High Mind-Boggler Span.

following up on what span is saying, merc, riddley and i are arguing for greater use of theatre when you see threads getting out of hand.

Sometimes shouting THEATRE in a crowded theatre might be just a little too subtle, especially when it's personal abuse.
I appreciate the use of it 'though.
And I would like to point out that I was the person who got a chocolate fish for using "theatre" in a staff meeting.

probably not.
might work if your colleague was called 'theodore', and you mispronounced it. the fish was deserved though, all the same.
the counter-culture is entrenched. especially where you work. bean-counter, especially.

indeed. i managed to ask if this industrial research grant was in fact "some kind of wishy-washy arts grant".
it drew very strange looks.
