  • Hadyn Green,

  • merc,

Damn, no he doesn't, died 2003.
I remember a workmate telling me that he was flying over Uganda and saw flames pouring out of the Presidential swimming pool...the water had been replaced by petrol and bodies swam in the flames...

  • andrew llewellyn,

I actually interviewed MC Hammer while he was wearing lyrca cyle shorts

    Can't touch this...

  • Damian Christie,

Just to clarify for futre generations, does the religeon have to be around longer than ther person MC Hammer or just longer than he was famous for?

Or 3) Whatever point in time it was that he became "MC Hammer", or at least the time when he was ordained as such by his record label. Because if he's self-styled, then I think the paradox that creates might cause some issues with that whole space-time continuum thingy.

Shall we just say "from the year that Can't Touch This was released as a single in the US"? Being 1990, apparently.

  • Hadyn Green,

    That still includes Scientology

  • 3410,

I would be happy to call you such, but only if you have been thusly ordained by your disciples. If you've annointed yourself then thou art a demigogue ..

Please advise how many disciples I'll need before you will bow down to my new title, as you do Tamaki's. Christ only had 12; I reckon I could get that by the weekend.

  • Kyle Matthews,

    That still includes Scientology

Yes, but if we rule that one out, we probably have to rule out "Jedi", which is at least as valid, and there's some 30,000 of them in NZ as of last census.

  • Ben Austin,

Jedi are not valid. They don't tithe, nor have a fancy place of worship.

are you right handed or left handed? I'd imagine that's been enough "disciples" to sustain you in life thus far ....

  • Russell Brown,

Russell: did you ask him "What's up with the pants?"

Actually, he was on an exercycle for the whole interview, so I guess the lycra was fitting. So to speak.

The highlight of the evening was accidentally catching one of the huge tour security guys delivering "medicine" to the dressing room of one of Hammer's support acts, Michele (that's Mee-shell-ay). Which rather undermined the whole drug-free high-on-life Hammer show PR ...

We in The Church of the Redeemer Pete Townshend take the Smothers Brothers performance of "My Generation" as our start date.

  • Damian Christie,

We don't tithe? Then who's been banking those cheques I've been sending off each week? And who sent me my decoder ring?

And yes, we have to include Scientology. Working on the basis that all religions are based on a series of wacky beliefs, the MC Hammer rule [finalised name TBC] merely provides a diving line between those that are too recent and potentially flash-in-the-pan to recognise.

It is possible that the MC Hammer rule may have a sunset clause, or at least need to be updated in a few hundred years, or when Christ rises again and points out that we were all wrong and Big Bishop Brian was right...

that's the guy who was only 'researching' the availability of kiddie porn on the web, right?

and lest we forget Bill Wyman. Is that his daughter, girlfriend, or someone he just met in the park?

come now. before we get a posse together and lynch bill, lets not forget the rules.

"thou shalt not think that any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a paedophile… some people are just nice."

  • Nobody Important,

    This from Wikipedia

In 1983 at age 13 she started dating the then 46-year-old Rolling Stones's bassist Bill Wyman. The two eventually married in 1989 and divorced in 1991. At the same time Wyman's son was engaged to Mandy Smith's mother (they would break up before marrying)......[more]

So dating at 13, married at 19, divorced at 21 ... poor old Mandy Smith

  • Nobody Important,

NZ's shame (from the Mandy Smith Wikipedia entry):

    Singles
    1987 ~ I Just Can't Wait UK #91, NZ#37

We appear to be the only country that rated her worth a listen

She also recorded the original version of "Got To Be Certain", which would later be the second international single release for fellow PWL act, Kylie Minogue.

  • hamishm,

Yes anyone who based a religious faith on a rockstar would be barking up a seriously wrong tree. That's kind of the point that I thought Damian Christie was making and tried to reinforce. Apologies to those not amused.

  • Nobody Important,

is that directed at me hamishm? I wasn't worried. I was amused, and (thought I) responded accordingy. Damn, are we gonna need emoticons here at PA?? please, no ....

  • hamishm,

Yes emoticons would be a step backwards. Happy to have been amusing.
Do you think it was the line "Je suis une rockstar" that hooked poor Mandy.
P.S. what is a PWL artist?

  • Nobody Important,

Pete Waterman Ltd (probably LLC actually, since they're Brits)

Pete was one half of Stock-Aitken-Waterman (well, he did half the work)
