  • Hadyn Green,

Also it doesn't mention if Tamaki was part of the discussion or not

  • Russell Brown,

yep, you sure said a lot there Sarah. the best thing to have come from this shit-fight is that more and more people are starting to seriously question both the morality and efficacy of that kind of so-called parenting.

I very much agree. For all that it was maddening and sometimes unpleasant the smacking debate has changed the environment. Maybe even, in the short term, more than the legislation itself.

  • Russell Brown,

You've sided with RB, fine, but care to comment on my other points above re "titles" ??

I need glasses. I briefly read that as "titties" ...

  • hamishm,

i think Brian's a bit of a bishop, but not in the ecumenical sense.

Ah, Riddley, I think you mean where he lives.

From wikipedia "In some Christian churches, the diocese is an administrative territorial unit administrated by a bishop, hence also referred to as a bishopric".

  • Graeme Edgeler,

    I didn't expect a coherent explaination. Thanks.

I'm surprised I came up with it. But then I recalled the arguments O'Connor was putting forward in the past (police have a policy about laying charges for domestic assaults, etc.) and it just started to make sense - 2 and 2 actually added to 4 - and we have the answer.

Sorry it wasn't actually coherent 'though :-)

situations involving assaults in the home in the where the assault involves parental correction.

But you got my drift anyway...

  • 3410,

    Nobody Important,

In accordance with your policy regarding titles, you must henceforth address me only as His Royal Highness the Right Honourable Lord 3410 the Magnificent.

But seriously... These Destiny Church creeps are dangerous Authoritarian drones. Now Tamaki's going around like some kind of representative of the people, and even the Leader of the Opposition consults with him. I'm with DC. No credence given to post-MC Hammer churches.

The rapper, not the Mitre10 mascot.

  • Lyndon Hood,

Incidentally, I recall Mr Barnett coming to the Otago Campus to evangelise in ought-one or -two or so. Someone said he'd been at it since leaving TV. Then went on to speculate whether there was cause and effect between the evangelising and TV-leaving and which was which.

  • Lyndon Hood,

Not that there's anything wrong with being an evangelist.

  • Damian Christie,

3410: I'm glad you agree. In fact I think I might have to develop this rule and see if I can get it spread further and wider.

I'm 33 for Chrissake, it's about time I had a rule named after me. I don't know how old Godwin was when he came up with Godwin's Law.

The Christie-Hammer Rule. Yeah. I like that.

It's got too much of an Auctioneer feel to it.

  • Damian Christie,

Damn, didn't look at it that way. The MC-Damian rule? Suggestions welcome. I'll have my people draw up a wikipedia entry at the close of business.

    The __Malleus Christiearum__

It's a great rule though because, if anyone tries to start a new religion you can say, "Stop! Hammer time!".

  • Hadyn Green,

Just to clarify for futre generations, does the religeon have to be around longer than ther person MC Hammer or just longer than he was famous for?

Where do parachute pants come into it?

  • Hadyn Green,

I'd make Tamaki a Bishop if he wore more parachute pants

  • Ben Austin,

I think part of the attraction of having fanatical followers would be the claiming and recognition of outlandish titles and honours.

I submit Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, dictator and the God of Equatorial Guinea as evidence.

I would be happy to call you such, but only if you have been thusly ordained by your disciples. If you've annointed yourself then thou art a demigogue ...

or alternately I could just ignore you altogether ...
