  • Russell Brown, in reply to Ant Timpson,

I investigated this with the company that controls all the espresso cups in Oceania.

I investigated it back when we had Karajoz as a Great Blend sponsor. They were keen to help, but it was really hard to make the numbers work.

Unless you can really commit to it, merch is quite hard.

  • Ant Timpson,

The paper cups can work but you need volume. It's okay for a one-off promotional tool but not as a regular gig like I required. 25,000 per week is tough. I didn't realise cafes paid to advertise their suppliers coffee. Always thought they were freebies and a reciprocal thing. Anyway, I know a lot more about coffee cups.

Merch. I've done it for stuff over the decades. Never made a dime. You have to have to patience of a Mr Vintage or reach a wide market like my buds at Mondo do.

  • Rich Lock, in reply to Stewart,

I'll turn up at one of those Blendy things as a Single Malt.

I'm going to assume this means you'll be totally drunk.

Or you could do what some of our parents tell us is done in their churches which is to announce from your pulpit how much everyone has given. <sarc>

And where I have gotten much practice stage whispering "Oh, what an adorable wickerwork basket. I'd take it, but haven't got anywhere to put the darling wee thing. Perhaps this nice family would have use..."

They will get the hint eventually....

Actually, PA-blended single malt (or a superior blend from a private bottler) is something that could be possible for Christmas, but I'll need to get onto it soon.

Still wouldn't really make much money, but it would be cool.

  • Russell Brown,

Actually, the other thing I need to get onto now is the 20th-anniversary Hard News book.

    There, I said it.

Choice! But will it come with a CD? Written Hard Newses are a grand thing, but I do sometimes miss the nuance that comes with careful modulation of tone and appreciative background snickering. Ah the good old days..

Is that a polite way of saying "the supersonic screech of blind terror when you realise you're too hung over to read the balls you scrawled on the back of a cocktail napkin much earlier that morning"?

Is that where we get to sniff the bottle but the distiller asserts ownership of its contents?

Actually, great idea. Just a few selected ones and/or a mash-up with a backing track.

Although I'd probably do it as a digital download. I hear all the kids are crazy for those.

    The Merch of Vendors…
a mere pound of PAS pastina pasta?
Pasta alphabets – just the letters for Hard News
    & Public Address ?
    including fideo from You tubetti…

…swamped in a rich and reliable sauce,
    topped with great cheese, natch!

so we’ve covered most of the major site predilections with clothing, food, whisky, cups, etc – only things left might be Hard News / PAS fluoro bike clips and shoe horns (made from old Feelers vinyl)!

Did the Feelers ever do vinyl?

I'd be more comfortable getting into my boots with something more ... tasteful anyway. Vintage rocksteady records or nothing.

Over the years, I've certainly been on the receiving end of some beers that aren't so much drunk as borrowed for a while before being passed back for the next customer. I guess the horse would have to be really ill to be producing spirits of the same provenance...

    PA-blended single malt

Say what now? A whisky is blended OR it is single malt. Perhaps you meant "PA-Branded"?

    Waikanae • Since Nov 2006 • 2937 posts Report

  • Islander, in reply to nzlemming,

A single malt is a single malt BUT - you can blend single malts- this would be something for a hugely experienced cellar-master with an exceptional nose to do- and could be done with the hoard in Oamaru-
