It depends on what kind of office you work in. All the clips are totally SFW in terms of imagery. But the cheery little song they're miming to ...

  • Peter Hoar,

    Great fun!
Here's an easy local video: a series of screengrabs of comments/assorted drivel from the likes of kiwiblog, whaleoil, NZ conservative, no minister etc.
Hmm, too easy really. Fish and barrels.
Still, the song is a useful mental soundtrack when delving into the NZ blog sewersphere.

  • Stewart,

Hell, the MailMarshall squelches a lot of my emails so I hate to think how the security team would react to this.

I kinda figured they were SFW because they didn't have a NSFW disclaimer and we're a responsible bunch of lefties, eh?

It'll keep until I get home. Somewhere between making dinner and watching footy, that's the time for the big F.U.

Fair call. I've added a "may be NSFW" disclaimer.

  • Michael Stevens,

I loved the first version, but now I agree with russell, the 2nd one works even better.

It's such a great cheery little song.

Who are we going to get here in NZ to make one??

  • BlairMacca,

Agree with the sewer types hanging around a large amount of blog sites. Thankfully there are a small number of blogs around (ie public address) where you can have discussions with differences of opinion in a sane manner. Thats a credit not only to you and your contributers Russell but also to the various commenter's here.

Cheers for giving some hope for humanity/sanity!

I've already texted one person to tell her she has a project on ;-)

My workplace is such that I just gathered a large group around my computer to watch with joy and additional, but less tuneful, vocals.

  • Bart Janssen,

    Thanks Russell that was great.

I just love the disconnect between the bright cheerful music and voice and the really quite intense emotion and content underneath.

To then use it to highlight the evil bastards that spend their time spreading hate against TBGLs or GTBLs or LGTBs or whatever that is ... while Stevie may not have done the best version, the idea of adapting the song was brilliant.

I can't wait to see what creative kiwis do with this.

  • Craig Young,

It already featured on Gaynz.Com a while back. Sadly, no-one has been inspired to sing it bigotwards in other directions yet, although I can think of several deserving pressure groups in that general direction... some of whom get quite irate about verbal profanity...

  • Tim Michie,

Cheers Russell - that brought a smile. As you say, the French version had more - well - style. And of Lily Allen, who was it that said

I love the fact that all the little girls know the words to her sassy, funny songs. It wasn't remotely heavy, but it was highly enjoyable. Plus, she has good banter and she's cute.

    Oh, that's right: You.

The song itself is a little ray of sunshine on a soggy Dunedin day, but I found myself getting a bit teared up seeing so many lovely earnest kids who've had to put up with shit for no real reason :/

There's no set rule but I find Large Gin, Bit of Tonic to be a helpful mnemonic. Especially early on a Friday evening.

Yes, yes, Grant, you're a squickily proud homophobe. We know. Way to be, sport.

I found myself getting a bit teared up seeing so many lovely earnest kids who've had to put up with shit for no real reason

I got a little verklempt myself. Although some of it might have been a 'the interweb is so awesome because this happens' reaction, too. Go kids!

Also: I love Lily Allen. Apart from that 'meaningful' song about how everyone's doing too many drugs. You are too young to have that epiphany, Lily! Couldn't we have had another song about being annoyed by sleeping in the wet patch instead?

Plus: where can I get one of those phallic rainbow iceblocks in the first video? They look like the business! It's the Cobb & Co traffic light on a stick.
