Colorado has collected over $4 million tax on recreational marijuana use in two months, making a year’s forecast of $24 million. We could expect similar figures here as Colorado has a population just over 5,000,000 compared to our 4,500,000. In fact we could expect more - The Ministry of Health estimated sales of synthetic cannabis at $140 million. Creating GST revenues of $21 million per year, and if we throw in another $10 million for illegal sales of weed, based on shifty guesswork around Colorado’s figures and taking off a random $14 million because of legal high sales, it all adds up to a substantial loss of tax income to the New Zealand economy. Regardless of the actual figures all of this is now in the grubby hands of the black market.

Uruguay the way to go .."High quality, cheap, legal marijuana" (Reuters) .. especially for "grandad" for whom knowing "authorities" are inclined to advise Prozac etc to cheer the olds up with cancer (cf Ben Wilson) senility etc .. but which quickly increase mortality and do little for pain relief ..or anything else really except increased probability of stroke and related nasty side effects ...

  • Craig Ranapia,

Funny how this has all been left to Peter Dunne to front as well – he is after all only the associate Health Minister, I don’t recall the actual Minister saying much about it at all, compartmentalise the damage and public perception –

Ian: Really hate to get in the way of a good conspiracy theory, but why the hell wouldn't Dunne be fronting a bill that was introduced in his name? Sorry to tell you this, but Tony Ryall doesn't need to step in and do damage control because I very much doubt there's any damage to be controlled.

  • Shulgin,

Drug Foundation executive director Ross Bell said there had been a muddying between cannabis dependency and genuine medical need.

"There's a lot of people who use cannabis recreationally who will say they are doing it for medical reasons," he said.

    mmm...aline ones arguments,,,

I think the line between addiction and recreation is quite blurry. Less so with tobacco, sure. That's one of the most addictive substances ever discovered. But even still. I, for instance, do actually use tobacco recreationally. I've never been addicted, not even when I was a regular user. Stopping required no effort of will whatsoever. And sometimes, I enjoy a cigar, even now. Probably one per annum, recently, but it's still there.

  • Shulgin,

    DOSAGE : 100 - 250 mg, orally

    DURATION : 2 - 4 hrs

QUALITATIVE COMMENTS : (with 200 mg, orally) "This started sooner and was a lot stronger than I had expected. I had trouble talking and I felt very uncomfortable. I think physically I was in a chair but I was on a kind of mountain surrounded by clouds. And the clouds talked to me."

(with 250 mg, orally) "I was seeing the Light real strongly. The Light sort of looked like bright bursts of Light but also like a kind of Spiritual Tunnel, and it seemed at one point, along with that, I saw a Human form, but the Vision seemed like I was sort of inside the Being and outside, and the Human was inside me and appeared to be outside, but I didn't see the being's face or clearly see the various limbs because the Being seemed to be the tunnel of Light that I was inside in the Vision, and seemed much larger than me. As King Jesus said: (St. John 6,56) 'Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood lives in me and I live in them'."

(with 275 mg, orally) "I have smoked this amount one time some while ago, and this is a lot more interesting. And a lot more intense. With smoking, there was a body rush that was uncomfortable, and you never really know how much went into you, what with pyrolysis and all."

(with 500 mg, orally) "This was intensely visual, and it lasted an exhausting 12 hours. I prefer the smoking route."

(with 100 mg, smoked) "The entire experience lasted only 20 minutes. I found the visual experience to be everything. It was a lot more benign than mushrooms with pretty much no toxic things, more like mescaline."

(with many mg, smoked) "I saw this vision of two hearts rotating. They were shaped like the usual heart shape (like a valentine). They filled most of my vision and were rotating one inside the other. Around the outside of the hearts there were sparkling jewels or crystals of light of different colors, maybe four rows deep surrounding them all around. This vision was totally clear. When I saw this vision, time was very full and long and complete."

(with 80 mg, i.m.) "I feel light and nervous. I'm way off in a big castle with beautiful colors and scenery. I'm back with the girl who accused me of fathering her child. It's peaceful. She had everything she wanted. My aunt made sure we went to church on Sunday. I see the devil in front of my face. Everything is going fast. Too fast. It's not pleasant. Things are going zig-zag. Feels like I'm tired. I feel like an old man in a rocking chair sitting in front of a phonograph. Everything is so mixed up. I'm trying to get myself together. I have a vibrating feeling. It makes me feel as though I'm not here."

(with 100 mg, i..m.) "I was being led by the hand of a wise old man who I know was God, and we went of to the front of the synagogue. I was handed a Torah for me to carry as a sign that I had been accepted, and forgiven, and that I had come home."

(with 12 mg, i.v.) "We were using an i.v. drip with sodium ascorbate which affected the timing, of course. This was strong at this level. I was set to go to a target dosage of 60 milligrams, but decided to stop at 12. It was strong, real strong."

(with 36 mg, i.v.) "This was administered as a sterile solution of the fumarate salt, so the actual weight of the drug used is somewhat less. This was a very intense experience, every bit as powerful as this amount of DMT."

crystal castles....I'll do one lump...and smoke the other....neat aye...then i get to meet god...down some tunnel...away from the paranoid church going folks....

You'll probably bump into that young guy who limps around Avondale every day. 5 years ago he was sniffing glue every time I saw him. Not so much since then, but he always seemed wasted. I presumed he was having legal highs. Now, maybe it will be back to the glue.

for most anecdotal reports... "Timaru hysteria"... I'd just stick with Campbell Live...better not to get into micro-gram matters ...I guess....such small details...anyway

....by way of having to explain...it was sort of heads up to the hapless health department writing the testing regulations...I hope there will be a section on "talking with clouds"...one might wonder how anyone can write regulations on testing procedures...when they havn't talked to the clouds....directly....seems there may be a few problems....of course MDMA and LSD and DPT compound 9 are always going to be better in the pure form and with a script....not lemon grass mixed with juicy fruit analogues...in the cat and mouse game....

...and then the method of administration....don't worry about animal testing...that is a report from a human being....not a rodent or fluffy wabbit...but rabbits are likely to be found falling down holes....

....got this feeling peeps who supported the PSA had visions of cloud like substances getting past the regulators of the socio-political world on the simple basis...good grief we can not keep up....however, it was never going to fly, this world leading legislation....just looks like storm clouds on the horizon...

....as you said before Russell...and the most salient point...drugs is a health issue...in Portugal they lead the world...I wouldn't like to find homebrew at the local liquor outlet....

and in another posting you said we needed to change our thinking about drugs....

...and that report was via our mutual friends from Erowid who have PIHKAL on line...but i don't reference anymore...seeing the Health department accepted the Maxwell report on cannabis by NDIB....no references for the data they used to tell the NZ public that cannabis was "soley" responsible for around 2000 hospital admissions a year and $30 million cost to taxpayers....and involved 60,000 bed nights...health department are incompetent...just as the NDIB...are....not very happy with D I MIlls nor health department who cooked the books and provide no references for the data they used....and people have the idea...... these people can come up with regulations on psycho active substances.....

EU Shines Light on Shadowy World of Clinical Drug Trial Data

"The drug Tamiflu recently made headlines when independent researchers revealed it wasn’t effective at actually fighting the flu. Roche, Tamiflu’s maker, had known this but withheld clinical data saying so. While this was unwelcome news for flu sufferers, the resulting scandal demonstrated just how little we actually know about the medicines we take.'

how much Tamiflu is stockpiled here in New Zealand? interesting when one considers how the health department might arrive at testing regime under the PSA world leading legislation...
