Reckon I'd watch both of those. In terms of entertainment - irony, tragedy, heart-ache, schadenfreude, unintended consequences, disastrous decisions, ridiculous antics, bare-faced lying, cheap tricks - MediaWorks 2015 has it all.

I'm really enjoying Steve Braunias' nightly reviews of The Block as he cleverly captures the unbridled excitement this series offers.
Today's story devotes a sizeable and deserved chunk to "Mark "Useless" Weldon" -- well worth a read.
And the running "Creak," croaks Cat" gag is just priceless.

What happens if the good ship MediaWorks goes down again? Knowing Weldon & Christie, they should do the honourable thing and go down with the ship, but more likely they'll probaby pull a Costa Concordia instead.

TV3 has not received the "more than $10 million" they requested from NZonAir for their proposed daily 5:30pm soap opera.
One has to wonder if the fact that they received over half million dollars from NZonAir for ten 3D Investigates shows, then promptly rescheduled the primetime programme to a late night backwater slot with no viewers, had any influence on the decision.

Cops on the Block coming to TV3?
Police were found to have manufactured a fake search warrant, created an invented signature of a court official to back it up then staged a false arrest of an undercover agent.

Bomber Bradbury claims to have insider information on TV3’s failure to secure $10m+ of funding from NZonAir for their new soap.
TV3 were privately assured that the funding for this was going to happen as the 5.30pm soap was the lynchpin behind Weldon and Christie’s plans to reinvigorate the TV network.
Rumours are that the decision not to fund the new 5.30pm soap were mostly to do with the way MediaWorks had treated 3D and Campbell Live. The resentment NZ on Air feel about promises made in the past to promote 3D and the way Campbell Live was handled has left a bitter taste in NZ on Air mouths.
It’s not just NZonAir experiencing that bitter taste, as recent ratings prove only too well.
However NZonAir seem to disprove that assertion by awarding $400k to TV3 for Minority Reports – 30 half hour Māori current affairs shows presented by Mihi Forbes. I guess TV3’s sterling record in the current affairs arena must have impressed somebody, huh.

Mihi Forbes record makes all the difference, eh? Cos IMO she has more current affairs mana in her little toe than TVNZ have across their channels.

John Drinnan has some thoughts on that.
Hubris:
Judging by the NZ On Air response to MediaWorks, Weldon and co have been too confident. MediaWorks sources said the chief executive and MediaWorks board member Julie Christie had been blunt in discussions with the funding agency.
Greed:
"The [NZ on Air] board considered the business case for the application was not strong enough when considered as a whole. Issues included MediaWorks' inability to commit to the level of sliding scale investment the board had previously indicated it expected" - in other words, making the taxpayer's contribution smaller as the show became established.
