which has not however deterred Don Brash
FTW. I, for one, welcome his enormous bald pate onto the pool table of politics, and hope he is potted off the break.

Thong tither thiren...
He has little,

PS: I noticed that TV
News caption writers
(Prime I think)
have now moved to
"Key-speak" and his
title read 'Prime Miniser' -
I thought after Key's catwalk appearance it was "Prime Mincer"?

Wow Linger, did you really just make an association from Key to mincing to (presumably) less masculine (or gay) and therefore that makes him "bad" or less worthy of respect? Apart sounding like a something a 12 year old would say, I'm pretty sure that falls into the stupid category of judging politicans by their appearance, gender and sexual preferences which really shouldn't have any place in these discussions.
-
And now 2011 will be the year Steve Jobs resigned as Apple CEO.

I think you'll find Linger was playing off the word "miniser" which Ian raised (fascinated by language as many of us are). You brought up the other associations. Don't worry, this isn't Kiwibog.

Pretty sure it was in reference to his performance on the catwalk which, rather than being an example of leet modeling skillz, demonstrated that he should stay behind the desk and resist all urges to compete for NZ Top Model. He really did mince, it was kind of amusing, and I'm sure Colin Marthura-Jeffree would have told him off. Nothing to do with his abilities as a politician.

I thought he just looked comfortable and relaxed, in a smiley, hand wavy kind of way.
A gorgeous, cute, little prime minister.
Nice puppy... -

ETA: Snap! It's certainly going to be the news of the year for *some* people, I think.

He's influenced the world more than most alive, and built one of the biggest companies in history. Don't have to be an Apple fanboi to acknowledge that.

Yeah fair point, but I don't think there such an outpouring when Bill Gates left. (Best example I can think of OTOH). Sorry I just find the messianic outpouring to Jobs a little OTT. But then again i'm not a techie so maybe i'm just not in the target.

No the point is Jobs doesn't appeal to techies, he appeals to users.
His contribution is best measured by the difference in apple before and after he left the first time. One man should not have that much influence but the experiment showed he did.
The interesting thing now will be whether the "company" has integrated his influence in a way that won't disappear with his absence.

It was originally a Mallardism IIRC. It wasn't so much about gay/straight issues, but more the 'embarrassing dad' aspect.

You call that an experiment? No replication, no control? I'm having second thoughts about your GE work...

Microsoft? Bill Gates?

To get back to politics and whether or not Labour are a shambles or not, I note that Gerry Brownlee is: " "unwilling" to release information relating to Canterbury land decisions – including Cabinet papers – before the general election." ".
It seems to me that this is exactly the sort of stick that Labour could effectively use to give Brownlee et al a damn good thrashing, and score a few much-needed points with. "Why won't you tell us, Mr Brownlee? Don't the good folk of Canterbury deserve to know?"
However, I think it says a lot that I will be surprised if they do. And that effectively feeds into the 'fit to govern'/couldn't organise the proverbial meme.

Jobs is sort of good and bad - he's anal about a great user experience and has great insights on what's 'right' - but he can be an asshole to work for, I've been a few cubes over when he was tearing a strip off of someone (his first time around) - people are plain scared of him - doing well at Apple can be a very hit and miss sort of thing - you can be the apple of his eye one minute and slime the next
