Field Theory: What goes with beer and sports?

  • Megan Wegan,

In my defence, you do have very nice jugs. And were probably heartily sick of me attempting that joke every time you came back with one.

  • BenWilson,

For me, BBQ is a necessary corollary of beer and sports. It doesn't feel right to watch rugby without my hair smelling of smoke.

  • Tristan,

Looking at the TV guide you are screwed when it comes to the all blacks game

But don't worry, there'll always be handball, real tennis and cheese-rolling to watch on Sommet.

  • Ross Mason,

O Jesus wept. Watching the reds playing the lions. Red and white. Both uniforms. What moron decided this would be a great spectacle. TV truly screws designer uniforms. Especially when the teams get clever and add splashes of "colour" to their uniforms. Both teams end up being washed out when viewed on TV.

I have to say that Netball takes the cake at the moment with vertical stripes and the same colours regularly conflicting with each other. So bad I have given up watching.

Please please please take on the North American idea of colours for the home team (usually taking the full overall uniform, and a light version with the teams colours in a very minor role.

This game, once the players are sprawled all over each other one has no bloody idea who is who.

Great advert for the game. Not.

  • Tom Semmens,

You would have needed a lot of liquor to have enjoyed the load of old clarts the All Blacks served up tonight. Still, Rene Ranger laid out one Froggie, which kinda made it a bit worthwhile.

  • andin,

There’s something about giving each other shit and waiting for the terrible jokes and complaining about the commentators that really bonds you with your friends.

just the usual unconscious most of the time innocuous social ingrouping/outgrouping kind of behaviour most of the country indulges in. Just occassionally someone loses their life because of it. Cue; wringing of hands, a little public mental anguish. Then back to doing it all over again.

People die at gardening, DIY, participating in sport, shopping, going to church or just sitting at the computer until cancer or heart disease sets in. 70,000 of em every year in NZ alone. Unless you believe the Singularity people, that's just how it is.

  • Rik,

Does Igloo allow you to record with an EPG yet? Seemed like a great idea until I realised you can't record - there's no going back once you've had MySKY and/or Tivo.

My dad is representing New Zealand at an international bridge tournament. Two players have died while he was there. In fact he's only in the team because one of the other representatives had a heart attack.

    Conclusion: bridge is f*cking dangerous.

If I'd known Megan making jokes near me was life-threatening, I would never have had lunch with her. Goodness.

I know. I was trying to nicely say that you were drawing a ridiculously long-assed bow.
