  • JohnAmiria,

a desperate urge for a more ladylike daughter...

Yeah, cos there's nothing more ladylike than doing the splits in stretch lycra ...!

    is this Olympic pervy?

  • George Darroch,

    Wasn't today just brilliant?

The waltz of Usain Bolt over the line. Absolutely surreal.

The unstoppable Phelps in the 4x100 mens relay - with the New Zealand team recording an amazing 3.34 and still coming fifth.

There are other NZ athletes worth mentioning, but for me it's all about Valerie Vili representing. I've loved her since her evocative fist pumping "motherfucker!!!" after her win at Osaka last year... what a legend.

    And 19-0 against the Springboks.

    Can't get much better that.

  • simon g,

It reminded me of nothing so much as the dog show judging commentary in Best in Show. Unfortunately, our guy was the moron judge...

Heh, that was classic commentary. And if anyone missed it, there's a chance of a repeat, as NZ and GB could be in the final of the (excuse technical term) "one where four bikes go round and round and the slowcoach gets dumped."

I think the Kiwi team should try and avoid the final, and get a heroic bronze. There can't be much fun in having a right thumping being played over and over on TV as a "medal moment".

    Like poor Roulston.

What's up with the (lack of) Hockey coverage?

I was watching hockey this afternoon. Or are you talking about New Zealanders?

    Ha! No worries

  • Graeme Edgeler,

Anyone else notice that the TV One news repeatedly mentioned how confused everyone was after the women's double sculls, and despite showing the finish of the race 3 times, didn't once play Pete Montgomery's race-end commentary?

  • Hadyn Green,

Yes I did. They also cut out the Paula Radcliffe "pit stop" from the marathon replay.

    There's a theme there.

Yeah. Black Sticks vs. Belgium wasn't played by TVNZ at all, I gather, and there's only half an hour scheduled for tonight's match vs. China, on One (though you can catch all of GBR vs. CAN on tvnz 4). I just find that odd, considering they're still a medal prospect. Oh, China just scored.

Regarding the Evers-Swindells win, tvnz's website claims that:

Indeed the television graphic had initially given the race to Germany, which prompted excitable celebrations among the German media, commentators and fans at Shunyi Rowing Park.

Could be, but that's not how I saw it.

It seems they'll play all of the Black Sticks match, though that's not what the schedule indicates.

I've seen it replayed at least three times. And I too thought the Germans had won purely on the basis of their flag appearing first, which is what happened with the winner of every other race. I think we could probably let PM off the hook on this one, you go and call it live like that. And, as others have remarked, he did sound like Noel freaking Coward compared to the commentator of the cycling pursuit.
