  • Geoff Willmott,

What's clear to see is entropy. That is, the uniform becomes more complex over time, with seemingly no way to reverse the complexity.

Hmmm ... think it's more like evolution than entropy. The uniforms get more complex (and therefore less entropic) with time. They are mutating and evolving, some changes will be more favoured and persist to future designs, others will not etc etc. The All Black jersey is like a tuatara.

OTOH you could argue that the ordered system is inexorably degenerating to chaos (therefore more entropy) as per the 2nd law.

  • Emma Hart,

    teal-era BLACKCAPS shirt

    Me three.

But then, I also think that purple England jersey is really pretty. I'd wear that.

  • Hadyn Green,

It might be the first Nike rugby uniform that I've liked the look of. Except for the colour: a nice darkā€¦ purple?

I probably should've made it clearer I really do like the England strip. I even like the purple. I just don't think it's ...um... English

  • Keir Leslie,

Also, Hadyn, your `correct' uniforms leave out Celtic* and River Plate!

*Yes, a horrible horrible team, but still, worthy of respect.

possibly, though I believe the seemingly relatively minor change, in 1999, of doing away with the white collars, was where it began to go wrong, particularly as regards World Cups. I realise this is a rather superstitious and silly view, but there you go. I also really really really hate the Westpac Stadium and wish they'd built something rectangular instead, but again, that view doesn't seem to be shared by many except Stephen Jones who all NZ fans love to hate.

mention above of the use of brown in uniforms, and of hoops for football shirts (QPR is another exception i can think of off the top of my head), makes me think of this rather bizarre combo - St. Pauli and Celtic.

  • flash,

That grey Manchester United away strip was so bad they only wore it a handful of times before they ditched it.
In fact, in one game they were wearing that strip (down 3-0 at half time I think) and came out for the second half in a different strip (blue and white) as the players complained that they kept losing sight of each other against the backdrop of the crowd.
