Been trying to figure out why someone like Toni Marryatt ended up here in Christchurch and then came upon those two wee revealing reports. Not surprised now. How Marryatt has been engaged behind closed doors with Gary Moore for quite some time. Let's remember both are accountants by profession.
One more thing: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK0702/S00160.htm
These are the relationships that are formed and all done openly. I don't see anything wrong here in Hendo supporting an employee in his Council aspirations. Johnny didn't stand while his Dad was in Council, he didn't get in and hasn't stood again. That's Democracy at work.
McTurk & Marriott are not to my liking, but they were both hired by the Council to do what they have done (not prejudging any CCC announcements here) and latterly there have been glaring failures in Consents etc. Simply McTurk had bigger things to do & Marriott has been promoted beyond his ability (OK maybe I am).
These are the relationships that are formed and all done openly.
Openly in the sense that, like an iceberg, all that’s in plain view is the top 10%. Nepotism is actively abetted where it suits the local media, and hard questions are rarely asked until someone has fallen utterly out of favour.
For example, only days after the September 2010 earthquake the Press was beating up a story on the Mayoress’s entitlement to scoff Council-meeting muffins, while CEO Marryatt was quoted on the same page openly referring to the by then highly dodgy Dave Henderson as “Dave”.
Jeez Joe and Gudrun. As long-time friends and former contract strategists for Garry Moore we don't see and -- have never seen since his first mayoral bid in 1998 -- the nespotism and bent dealings you allege.
It's getting near defamatory, and it's certainly mean-spirited. I had thought better of you both.
Why should anyone not stand for elected council positions because their relative is in the game? Hendo gave him $1200 for his campaign: declared and receipted.
Johnny Moore writes a Press column yes -- despite his father's fractious relationship with the newspaper in his last term. Where's the nespotism? Are you saying his thoughts are not his own but Garry's in drag? Get real, Johnny's an ornery grown-up who hides behind no-one.
The venom behind your postings is horrid: this family has been hammered by the earthquakes: in business, health, homes and financial ways that they will never make public because they don't want sympathy. They want to be able to get on with reconstructing their lives, like everyone else in the city.
What is the point of posting and reposting (on both of our Facebook pages and here) innuendo-laden bullshit from one blogger that can only wound?
Knowing nothing of Steven Cowan and his blog, we assume that a Moore or two likely pissed him off. Garry was not easy to deal with in his last term, and that's said by two who were sent to the lake of fire regularly.
That's all we've got to say on this one: we're not interested in a bizarre and pointless bag-lady scrap. We're just really pissed off and need to rebut the gratuitous and un-PAS-spirit postings.

Garry is an old family friend and one of his children is a dear friend of mine, also I love the Bodgie Beer specially brewed for Smash Palace (their family business) by Harringtons Brewery (another Christchurch family business).
Johnny Moore in his own write...
Politics is a nasty game - especially in this city at present - and I applaud those with the guts and fortitude to put themselves forward for a job that will surely be one of the most testing in the city over the next three years.
I liked this piece, but the usual suspects jumped on him in the comments section, "that's Chchch(inatown), Jake..."
Garry is an old family friend...
Good for you. For my part, I emailed Garry Moore over a certain issue back when he was Mayor, and received a prompt and courteous reply. That's certainly more than could ever be expected from the present incumbent. I only wish that Moore had been rather more constructively critical of the Parker-led Council in the years since the earthquakes began. All we've heard is a rather bad-tempered swipe at Parker's "show pony" tendencies, and nothing at all about the disastrous CEO's antics. While Moore could have publicly distanced himself from his early endorsement of Marryatt, his later acceptance of an unadvertied position as a paid consultant to Council appears to have unfortunately compromised his ability to speak out.
Hebe, I'd be happy to engage once you've dropped the personal stuff. Feelings are running high at the moment over the Marryatt issue. Attempting to re-write the history of Moore's involvement with Marryatt's appointment comes across as patronising and provocative.

Is it too early to nominate Word Of The Year?
I would like to nominate "Nespotism",
It has a wonderful symmetry
Subtle difference between getting a contract from an Uncle as opposed to "Long Term Friends"
meet Richard Tuber...
I would like to nominate “Nespotism”
in an electoral environment this is
also known as 'Pollpotism'
but in other arenas one could
wrestle with 'Tosspotism' as well...
...and we all know where
'Teapotism'* got us!
*retroactively claimed and nominated as WOT(Last)Y
Nespotism: the scourge of instant coffee. Obviously.
Red ribbin' 'n' roastin'...
'Nespotism' ... the scourge of instant coffee...
That's Gregg's ® excuse...
No need for Maxwell's silver hammer,
nor the Latte-a-day Saints to
come a callin' then...

Ian, this plunger into humour is one of your crema-de-la-crema extractions; grounding the expresso slide into macchiatonations.

Hebe and Ian, I wish I could 'like' these posts. :-)
Amazing, like, unlike, bullshit buttons would be wonderful additions to PAS.
Tony Marryatt deal done.
(A legal minefield I would imagine: all release details will be part of the legal agreements. Lawyers crawling all over it.)
The update: CCC statement (via Rebuild Christchurch).
Thank God the Bob & Tony Show is over.
The only curtain call will be for the forensic accountants.
This seems like the right place to post a notice of the death of a remarkable and lovely man, Master Loo-chi Hu, who was my t’ai chi teacher and who had a profound influence on my life and many other people’s lives. He died last week.
His funeral is at 1pm on Thursday at John Rhind in London Street, but as many people who knew him will be unable to attend, this notice has gone out:
“To all friends and students of Loo-chi Hu,
To honour the memory of Loo, a respected teacher, mentor and friend to many people in New Zealand and around the world, please take a few minutes to appreciate his contribution to your life.
We suggest that at 1pm NZ time on Thursday that you mark the passing of this exceptional man in your own way that reflects his life and work: perhaps doing the T’ai Chi Chuan form as taught by Loo, perhaps a silent reflection and meditation, perhaps speaking well of him, perhaps attending the funeral.
Whatever you choose, honouring our teacher will be appreciated by his family and all those close to him.
Please pass on this message to others who have known Loo.”
Sorry to hear of your loss.
