We went on Thursday night to the preview. Carousel was a standout for me, brilliant direction by Michael Hurst ,the backup band and lighting . I couldn't agree more Jackson.

Simply outstanding.

Love the middle shot, Jackson. They should hire you.

Cheers Sacha. In a round about way, they kind of have. Unofficially, of course. ;-)
The original Jacques Brel Amsterdam is definitely worth a viewing.

One of my favourites...

No mention so far of the backing music, which I found absolutely astounding - I wanted a separate audience response, especially to Leon Radojkovic on piano. This in addition to the plaudits above.

Absolutely agree, and I should have covered it better I guess. Kind of hope there is some live recording or video footage coming from the show. It had a cinematic vibe to it, which would translate well, IMhO.
Here's Nina Simone doing Ne Me Quitte Pas.

Thanks Scott. Fixed your link too. St Vincent are amazing. One of the many acts I need to get more of.

Jackson, your photos are so good one of them has appeared uncredited on this blog: http://13thfloor.co.nz/reviews/concert-reviews/brel-the-words-and-music-of-jacques-brel-directed-by-michael-hurst/
I was going to comment but thought Iʻd let you do it. -

Cheers Carol. Funny how these things go. Will get in touch, but don't really mind, as long as they put a credit. And a link to this Blog. ;-)

Exactly.

Did I mention Scott Walker? Apparently not.
Although I did of course find a plethora of his work when I originally searched for Brel on YouTube. You might like to look him up too.

Jos,
Don't know if you realized it Jack, but Tama is a Whakatane boy.

No I didn't, but I'm not surprised. Just another example of the choice as crop of people that neck of the woods produces.
But I would say that...
