Cultural diversity in the garden: shot through laundry window. I don't know what the (Australian) plant is that attracts the parrots but they just love it.

Chaoyang Park is so awesome that even one Johann Strauss came to visit – and stayed.

And Berlin's Mitte district sent a bear (Berlin means "Little Bear") with the text, partially visible, "Berlin Mitte grüßt Peking Chaoyang".

  • Gudrun Gisela, in reply to Chris Waugh,

That statue of Strauss looks very familiar.

  • Chris Waugh, in reply to Gudrun Gisela,

Well, it claims to have been donated by a district (Bezirk? My German is really, really rusty and I can't remember the actual wording) of Vienna. Does that help explain how it looks familiar?

    Caution: Ducklings crossing.

Lake, boats, bridge, Longtan Park, Guomao Tower 3 (tallest building in Beijing) and Jianwai Soho in the distance.

No park is complete without a vintage jet fighter.

Saxophone, happily playing to himself and whoever may wish to hear. (oops, now changed to the shot I wanted to post)

French horn on the opposite corner of the same square. This dude gets an audience.

And a really popular bridge - bet it's nice and cool in there.

    Kids chasing bubbles.

That cool bridge from the other side. I loved the light down in this little corner of the park. It felt warm, soft and very green.

Geez, you could almost forget you're in the middle of a city of 20-odd million souls...

And the morning’s adventures ended with the yummiest yoghurt in Beijing.

How yummy is this yoghurt? This yummy, and she’s only getting started in this shot – and she made such a gleeful mess that I’m sure next time we go there they’ll have a big sign saying “No Pakeha Toddlers” on the door.

ETA: Nearly forgot! Are there any Uighur/Xinjiang restaurants in NZ? Cos I think Uighur cuisine would be really popular in NZ - although certainly not for vegetarians. Oh, and lunch rocked to Uighur pop music, awesome beats.

Aaawwwwww.... the only motherly feeling I possess is towards kids enjoying their food...

Actually, it extends to all people enjoying good food(I do not include elephant feet within that category, or dolphins....actually, the list of exclusions is HUUUUGE-)

Looks attractively liveable! Your summer-like in spring, here matching summer-like in autumn (but without the ducklings and willows) at the long beach Te Oneroa.

How awesome are my students? Midday, blue sky, hot sun, 30 degrees…

Those are my students in white… or the team with actual uniforms, in other words.

And the super high-tech scoreboard says 32:12 at half time. 64:36 at full time, and my students relaxed and had fun in the second half. One dude shot three 3-pointers in a row from exactly the same point on the circle after exactly the same manoeuvre. Almost embarrassing, but hey, I'm bloody proud of them.
