A few photos of trees that didn’t survive the storm up North. Bit depressing really.

And although we appreciate the firewood and the change in view in this shot ,the difference was like this all over our place. Big gaps.
    Before and after.
Oh well, never mind, I think the Wars all over our World are worse.

I first saw this growing on the persimmons on a tree at my daughter's kindergarten this morning, and being rather preoccupied with playing with her, I just glanced at it and thought it was mould. Hardly surprising, considering Beijing has been it's usual muggy self this July. But I was talking to a neighbour and saw the same stuff growing on the persimmons downstairs, and he pointed out that no, it's actually a kind of insect.

    And closer up.

Tree news from the front lawn

Later half of July and the walnut has finally lost all its leaves, invigorating my passive solar heating and opening up my visual world.

The walnut stretches out to touch the corners of its new world –
kowhai at near/top, disregarding the neighbours’ fence at left, heading for the river beyond, and my kitchen window at right.

Nice pics all – funny I was just wondering where ChrisW’s local trees were – glad to see they are doing OK there. Not like Sofie of the North’s trees….. cool reconstructions Kebabette.

    I've missed your updates, ChrisW.

Nature continues on up here, despite all the city hurls at it.

Though I'm not sure my father in law would approve of my neighbours' attempts at growing corn. I was only away for a week, and this is what happened... Still, I think I see why I see corn plants growing in seemingly really random places like median strips.

Some more trees from the front lawn then!

    Late sun on ti kouka,
though I was tempted to name it for the white spotted pukeko
to be spotted as for Michael Smither’s 'White Gate, Kaitake'.

A taller ti kouka head, with a mantle of seed strings from the dawn redwood.
Plenty of sun for the ti kouka in the winter, but it struggles in the summer growing season.

The dawn redwood captures only a little of the wnter sun, but really, would it mind stepping out from ti kouka's sun for the summer?
Though disguised by a misleading name, the dawn redwood it happens is Chinese, seen here in proportion to NZ's ti kouka? :-)

A few more trees … Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch, the other day. The setting light made the trees come alive.

Alternative angle on the blow-dried tui,
could almost be the same one but for the lack of blossoms on the walnut tree.
