Gudrun Gisela scanned it, & I rotated it 1 degree right & removed a couple of dirt specks and here it is after sitting in a box of slides for nearly fourty years

Wow! No obvious fading, and no mildew! And a lovely shot.

It doesn't look like much, and I must've been past this place a hundred times, and noticed the sign most of those times, but I decided to do a little roaming around my neighbourhood this afternoon and suddenly it hit me - just on an odd side of the neighbourhood, in an area I usually drive rather than walk through and on a corner that doesn't normally allow for taking in the scenery, is a water recycling company.

And relying on my cellphone really does not make for great pics (see above), but I thought Mr Nokia and I came to a rare agreement on this particular sunset.

Thanks for keeping this rolling along 3410 (nice sunset), Chris and Chris W.

I rode out to Titirangi today, with a brief stop to looking at wondrous junk at Avondale Markets.

I decided that this time I’d go to the McCahon House while I was out there. It’s quite a haul back up out of French Bay, but I’m glad I did it.

I found it quite a profound experience. It’s hard to believe he and Mary lived in such a tiny place with four children.

This is a detail of the open-air dormitory he built under the house for two of the kids. I tried the Camera+ HDR effect (which I’ve taken to using as a pseudo paint effect) and was quite pleased. I fancied it looked a tiny bit like a McCahon.

And, just down the road, the French Bay scene he painted repeatedly through the Titirangi years.

I AM Scrawl. I made that old mistake of saying to a 9yo 'write anything', so she did.

I fancied it looked a tiny bit like a McCahon.

    Actually, it kind of does.

ETA: Yes, being confined indoors for two days is taking it’s toll. Had to get outside for some air, so photography seemed obvious low intensity activity.

The impression is fostered by the knowledge that he built the structures himself, in rough-hewn timber. It's not hard to perceive similar shapes to those that marked later paintings.

On the subject of artists' former residence's, Lao She's old home in the former German concession in Qingdao. Despite what the photo says, we definitely did not go there in 2005... 2009 was more likely. Our old camera decided every year was 2005. Anyways, we walked round and round and round looking for this place only to find it down a tiny lane the map wasn't overly clear about and in a state of repair Russell's photos of Colin McCahon's place reminded me of.

Thanks Islander. I enjoyed Sacha's response as I have no clue what the plant is Jackson, poking through between the rise and tread of a step.

    Ooo!
When I get back to Big O, I must post photos of my 2 kauri (the West Coast’s southern-most, far as I know) which I planted 38 years ago…it is my dream that,
hundreds of years in the future when house & me are dust, the kauri will still loom…

Sof' - love your plant & insect & bird portfolios!
