Alas, the holidays are over. So Ruby and I spent one last day cavorting with some other dogs. We went to Meola Reef where there were lots of dogs and people. And here’s Lily who is one of three beloveds of a friend of mine.

We found a leg of a weta in the outdoor shower. The leg was a good 10 inches long. We observed a) the rest of the bod was missing and b) something bigger must have eaten it. Much like Johanson huh? {; )

Well it was officially the first day of holidays. Much of it, for me and my girl, was spent in bed, catching up on some telly. Ruby did some sunbathing later in the day, in a very unusual place. For a dog, that is.

Turned off image stabilizing as that does no good on a tripod.

Luckily my old 70-200mm doesn’t have a stabilizer. On the other hand, the tripod wobbles in the breeze, so fine focusing was a challenge.

My cheap 70-300 4-5.6 zoom Jac, that's a 100% crop. Did use tripod and shutter release cable and used Live View at max close up to focus. Turned off image stabilizing as that does no good on a tripod.

I’m not going anywhere, but.

I am but if I was in Aucks I'd try get out on the Harbour . There really is something rather refreshing in getting out on the water. Boats are helpful though.

Best guess is a still fairly small weeping Chinese scholar tree. Sometimes sold in NZ as Japanese kowhai, it's a Chinese native. If you happen to be around there in August check for kowhai-like flowers.

My mother’s frontfence- based plant has taken over the neighbour’s hedge and is threatening pedestrians on the right-of-way…grows *very* fast and has magnificent purple fowers (growing wisteria in um, suitable areas? has been a family habit since the late 1890s…)
