More to come, but here are a couple of shots of the early bloomers down at St Mary’s Bay.

Can I add the 23 biggest and best pohutukawa that the Taranaki Regional Council are hellbent on felling beside our Waitara River? https://www.facebook.com/SAVE.the.Waitara.Riverside.Pohutukawa

This newbie is on Waiheke Island at Stony Batter. Seems not everyone appreciates the fact it takes 80 years or more to grow from this to the size of the Western Springs 6 or the Waitara 23.

I promised him faithfully that I would not embarrass him with this photo - hence the indifferent quality - but the man to whom I am married has a zero online presence so he will never know. Doing his yoga stretches beneath a pohutukawa at the back of the viewing area by Auckland airport, to recover from longish drive north before flying to Australia on December 19. They blooms were finished when we returned yesterday.

Lots of large trees in bloom on Waiheke, many still providing beach shade, which is one of their best design features.

Across the road in Porirua. Metrosideros excelsa aurea. Golden Pohutukawa seemed to flower first around us this year. Reds are bursting forth now.

The tree at the corner of our deck has flowered well this year. It’s nice to have there.

It’s hard to capture the hyper-vivid red of the freshly-bloomed trees. But I had a little play with Camera+ settings for this cluster in Western Springs.

  • Chris Waugh,

    Beautiful trees.

But I'm having a strange problem with public address: I can access it fine on my phone, both via the wifi at the restaurant where I got lunch and via China mobile, but whether I use Firefox or Maxthon on my computer I get redirected to www.cjb.net. internet explorer works fine - by which I mean only that it will let me open public address - which is most annoying. I still can't persuade chrome to actually do anything.

But like I said, beautiful trees.

That sounds like you've got some adware/malware inadvertently installed.
