Capture: Laneway 2018

  • Simon Bennett,

Yes, the heat was unbearable. We arrived at two and had definitely run out of steam by about 5.30. However, we found a bean bag and some shade and had a long rest. This made it possible to get to the very front for The War on Drugs. So pleased we made the effort.

The stamina factor means that I am seriously considering whether I am getting too old for Laneway. I think in future, I will arrive later.

Loved Moses Sumney - what a voice!

Yeah, I’m with you Simon. We stopped for a while too, but I made the stupid mistake in wearing what seemed to be comfortable new shoes, but after six hours in that heat were pretty much foot clamps.

Was also funny in that I knew I lot of people were there, but didn’t bump into them as I usually would.

Another Wolf Alice, Billie Eilish and Aldous.

Cheers Simon. Everyone was talking about Moses, and unfortunately I missed them. Listening on the interwebz though I found I couldn't get past the auto-tune, but maybe I need to give it more time.

  • Simon Bennett,

I'm pretty sure he doesn't use autotune. Lots of looping. Amazing virtuoso falsetto.

Yes, it's not autotune but delays and effects from the little console you can see in the pics. I thought it was incredibly effective, at times turning his voice from a vocal into an instrument. Seriously one of the best performances I've seen at Laneway.
