Speaking of low light, Martin Phillipps, Montecristo, 12 June 2009.

    Thanks Jonathan.

Looking forward to doing a bit more live stuff on here.

  • Lilith __,

Did you say a 40W bulb?? Crikey.

I like the graininess, actually. The interior looks smoky and atmospheric. :-)

maybe you can get some performers' photos of the audience....
a different vantage point, from a game set...

  • Sophie G,

I woz there. It was dim as dim. I'm amazed Jonathan managed to get any detail at all on Tono and Finances faces, even the highlights looked like low-lights to the eye. And if you haven't been, the Lucha lounge is miniscule, so

    performers’ photos of the audience

this almost was... no separation here.
My word for dirty dim grainy black and white pics taken in the Lucha lounge = Moody. (probably all capitals).

  • Geoff Lealand,

Is Prince in there somewhere? This pic reminds of the computer simulation of satellites circling Earth.

    Now you mention it...

I'm pretty sure only he could have hit those notes, and played that guitar the way he did. It would have been nice to be closer, but then the tickets would have cost 4 times the price. Or perhaps it was the Geo-tagging on my account?

  • Gregor Ronald,

Wow, that light was low! I used to get similar results in the 70s with Ilford 400 (was it HP400?) push processed to 1600, but I think your grain is finer. And they're great photos, on top of the techy stuff - good job!

  • Jonathan Ganley,

Thanks Gregor. I'm trying to get more Ilford Delta 3200 now because this set and the last couple of rolls have worked well for me. It could be pushed to 6400 or 12800 ASA but I haven't tried. Also, when you hang it up it dries nice and flat. I went back to Tri-X in a wave of nostalgia for a while, however it wouldn't dry flat but slightly bowed, so the scans were not sharp across the whole image.

Lovely, crunchy grain. Erm, developed in what…?

Here's the techy stuff, Peter ... the developer is Tetenal Ultrafin, diluted 1+10, the time was 18 minutes at 21° C. The first minute is continuous inversions, then five inversions for every minute after that. The scanner is an Epson V700.

Similarly dark surrounds with Opossom at KA last December. They are playing Lucha next week, but it's SOLD OUT!

They need to do 45 shows in a row, like Prince. ;-)

Dimmer's 2nd to last show, also Kings Arms, earlier tonight. Easiest to work with the limitations of the point and shoot...

On my computer at home. Wasn't quite as good on the big screen. Especially like your last one.
