Oh. I'll have to adjust my mental image of Ben now, which hitherto has always, for some reason, included blonde hair. Along with my reluctant acceptance that Sacha is male, this might take some time.

I'm no linguist, but the name 'Sacha' has always been a masculine derivative of its type. 'Sasha', on the other hand, is more evenly spread across the genders.

Fair enough, although I think it was the consistently empathetic and reasoned tone that did it for me:) For what it's worth, my mental image of Sacha is now of a bloke with long hair; an admittedly sexist and often uncomfortable compromise.

Sasha/Sacha is a diminutive of Aleksandr in the Russian, which I grew up with. So I tend to assume a Sacha/Sasha is male. But in NZ that isn't always the case.

Heh, I've certainly said some blonde things. It is curious how a mental image can build up, no?
-
John Armstrong, in reply to
No no, nothing to do with blondeness in that sense! I think it arose more from a confluence of preconceived conceptions about cyclists and science-fiction buffs. You know, young and outdoorsy..

For what it's worth my mental image also has you square of jaw and blue of eye. Like a German submariner but without the scar.

You are cannily accurate, John.

Meanwhile, Ben Wilson and a golden lion’s arse.
I really think that should be on Emma's thread. Is that anal or is the lion just having a crap?

Tea towel says “Shut your mouth when you’re talking to me”.
I almost didn't buy it because I wasn't sure I could deal with having a John Key tea towel, but then I thought, nah, it's by Cut Collective and it's only going to get cooler and funnier with age.
I had a great time at the OGB. So many good conversations with so many interesting people, and everything that happened on stage was quality. OGB reprazent.

Was good to see you Robyn. These get togethers are too infrequent and over too soon. Well, that and our early bedtimes these days. ;-)

Hey, we can always poke his eyes out. :)
I was happy also to support them and they commented that they were very happy to have been noticed. The pun of the tea towel was too good to ignore. :)
