I'll dig out my besties later on, but for now, a seasonal set-piece taken yesterday.

  • Russell Brown,

Welcome to any first-time photo-posters. If you want to add your own, you need to register to comment. Then you just use the "Choose File" button below the comment window.

You can post up to three pics in a single comment. Just save each one, then use the edit function to go back and add the next.

Size-wise, we like about 500k to 1MB. I export from Photos on my Mac with jpeg quality set to "high" and photo size to "large".

No worries! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. The focus is courtesy of the tilt-shift filter (aka "Miniaturise") in Camera+.

I’ve spent a lot of time filming Kaikoura this year. This pic was taken at the SH1 reopening dawn ceremony today in Rakautara. Like many here, im tired but very happy and proud of what’s been done.

Lovely image - it reminds me of the low-light stuff Angus McNaughton does.

Grey Lynn Park Festival. Police patrol, journalists yawn and people queue for ages for a pic with the new Prime Minister. For a fun game, see how many DPS staffers you can spot.

I think this might be my favourite pic of the year: kids crossing the mud to get to and from the composting toilets on Saturday morning at Splore.

    a seasonal set-piece

Flowering time for the southern rātā. A different style of tree from its cousin the pōhutukawa: it’s bushy and flowers all the way from head to toe.

It's also a bee-magnet! You can't tell from the photos but this tree was surrounded by an almost solid halo of flying bees. One tree, supporting all that life.

PS there's a wonderful blog here on the keen folk at Otari Wilton's Bush hand-pollinating a rare (white) Bartlett's rātā this season.

A joy to see, thank you! Here's one from a few years ago at Jackson Bay, South Westland. Photo by Walter Neumayr, son of the late Gudrun Gisela.
