We haven't had a lot of autumn down here yet. Today is ridiculously gorgeous. My harlequin glorybower however is in full berry. These berries can be used to dye things a starting smurf blue.

Not so much on the autumnal colours, but it is a fair representation of Auckland's autumn weather so far.

Beautiful! A striking pose too with one foot above its ear. Is that in shadow with strong blue skylight to bring out the colour and sheen of the feathers?
(Or in other words - how the hell did you do that?)

Plain soft overcast for this autumnal kingfisher 12 days ago. It chose to perch in the open spaces of some die-back on the old grapefruit tree, to check out the jungle of weedy grass below for skinks or other goodies.

  • Hebe, in reply to JacksonP,

I'll be investigating the Phottix, and Jos's Raynox clip-on, and the Marumi filter....hours of fun until I get my lens back from the surgeon.

Some wondrous photos on here today; the tui, Pakiri and the backlit rose are three I specially like.

Orange sky for autumn - smoke from far away passing over Gisborne from the west around 4 this afternoon, did interesting things to the light.
Anyone know where the smoke was coming from?

Detail - smoking in the shower?

What a lovely picture.... really does something for me... the layers of colour and texture from the leaves and path to the grass to the trees to the smoke and sky.... and I like the sort of syncopated echoing of shapes - the shapes of the trees almost repeating and echoing, but not quite, the smoke almost echoing the shapes of the trees but not quite.... : )

    peppers

Red peppers, smoked paprika, squashed garlic, and Black Krim/Marmande/Tigerella tomatoes and thyme from the garden cooked until it's sticky and sweet has been my go-to meal base this summer and autumn. That picture makes my mouth water.
