Hmm, so I can finally add a NZ podcast to ipodder, huzzah!

Jeremy, phone voices made NZ great, which no reasonable person could refute, surely!
That Muldoon video is great. Nearly 15 minutes of conversation about the differences between possibly different types of Soviet naval vessels. Anyone else find it almost surreal to see a news item / interview without any humour (or attempts at it), stupid intro pieces that relate nuclear ships to real kiwis in their homes?

I don't think those accents were affectations either. Many people take speech training while at school if they enjoy public speaking or their parents believe it useful, so for them (and I include myself in this group) this type of accent is how we speak in formal situations. It is automatic, which often amuses people when they hear me answer the phone.

I remember seeing Gore on the Late Show a year or two after the 2000 election, and the contrast between before/after election was amazing. Gone was the uptight, pseudo populist candidate, and in his place was a pretty funny open guy. If he can combine that latter persona with a serious platform then he would definately be a solid candidate.
So far as the republican race goes, well, if they can get a killer theme song like the link below, then they could select a performing dog and still win IMO

I still think it is too early to tell to be honest. Regardless of what Rudi may or may not have promised the christian right, I can't see how they'd be anything but suspicious.

I don't know if anyone has been following the internet radio royalties issue in the US, however I've been reading about it and I'd like to know how NZ deals with this. Anyone know or got a link?
-
Possibly. It isn't really an original observation on my part - in fact if I cared to go back I'm sure I could find dozens of similar statements from the late 1990s.
I wonder what TVNZ said about the internet and file sharing back in the day?

I haven’t really watched TV regularly since about 04, so while this new service doesn’t look bad, at least in regards to archive access, I don’t see it changing my habits. Perhaps TV is too passive compared to the new alternatives that the Internet offers, like online gaming, news, blogs, forums (like this site), podcasts, net radio, youtube, chat services (hooray for IRC) and the like. Oh and books, currently I am reading Daniel Dennett’s Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon.
Like everyone else has said here - until broadcasters/publishers can approach the level of simplicity/ease of use/speed of the pirated/overseas DVD alternatives they are really just grasping at straws. People are no longer willing to just sit back and wait for TVNZ etc to determine their viewing habits for the coming year.

Sadly no, the reality is much more mundane.

My eyes are being truely forced open today.
What other treasured myths lie ready to be violated in a similar fashion I wonder?
