Oh yes, have you seen O' (jeez) Sullivan's column today?
Need I say more? -
On the subject of Consciousness.
I have always believed that consciousness was something that we belonged to, not something that belongs to us. This plays into the concept of god (or any higher "being" that you can imagine) Awareness, on the other hand is often confused or mistaken for consciousness. To say that someone is conscious of an emotion really throws the spanner to the monkey (with or without pants, but I think that comes from another thread that i am aware of)
The point of reference is how we feel about our existence in the perception of "our" universe. If you consider that the universe, as we know it, is merely an illusion created by the relationship between Time, Space and Energy then we can start to conceive of a situation where consciousness is actually the relationship that the universe has with itself. A bit like being aware of consciousness.

I'm probably writing my own WINZ cheque
Maybe. But with the sort of writing we've seen from Cracker over the last few months I doubt it.
Personally I think Damian's writing is more than adequate for the purpose of writing cheques.
If more jounalists had your attitude Damian maybe, just maybe, the quality of our "news vendors" might improve.
Good on ya, best of luck and welcome back to Auckland. -
There is a big blue wall just down the street a little from our place and it has always attracted tagging, it has been cleaned so often that the graffiti guard has started to peel. Normally the tagging is removed within days but since the "News" about taggers hit the headlines things seem to have changed. Last night I noticed a guy, wearing overalls and rubber gloves came along and started taking photos of the tags. as he was doing this the "offenders" turned up (yes, I knew who they were) and started posing for the camera. Like duh!. The graffiti is still there, it looks like it says "MAFTAX" (although I doubt if is was the Min. of Agg. and Fish demanding a new tax) a little further along the wall are the letters DTR and Need Cash? Easy... but I think that may have something to do with the firm that has the corner shop.

I'm pretty sure the reason John Key is so loathed by the left is that they see him as a class traitor.
Pardon?
Well, let's see. Brought up in a state house, got a free university education, went overseas to make his fortune, came back to help his rich new mates rape and pillage, threatens to reduce the wages of the working class. Nuff said?

Yep. If he'd just said that Glenn's last contribution was a loan to set up a more robust fund-raising system, it wouldn't really have been a problem.
I suspect he thought "loan" conjured images of cash-for-peerages a la Blair, but -- duh! -- those loans were chiefly a problem because they were hidden.
To be fair. A loan is not a gift/donation, it has to be paid back. The $7000? lost interest is a donation and it was "under the radar" as far as declaration went at the time. Labour could have declared the $7000 at the time but it would have to have seen this mudslinging coming to think it necessary. Let's face it, when you're in Govt. you're supposed to be working for the good of the country, not playing petty politics.

I'm hoping all this will blow up in Nationals collective face and I'm sure it will, (People who live in glass houses etc.) National has done nothing than badmouth the Govt. at every given opportunity since they lost the last election and have given us little in the way of policy. I know it's "par for the course" when in opposition, to keep the incumbent "honest" but the way they have behaved in the last three years would be regarded a treason in a lot of countries. Greed is a greater driver than generosity so self interest will always be the winner in an uncivilised society, that's just human nature, which is why "The Right" have always been divisive ,dishonest and downright mean. I would like to think that those that believe that they should be running the country would rise above such base instincts. I am not holding my breath on that one.

Well maybe it doesn't sux but it's got enormous bumps and suffers from wind. Hardly the place to ride a bycicle with a styrofoam starbucks in your hand looking for an ice rink. Still, having said that I have a freind from Welly and she also has large bumps and wind.

Well, having read all the posts about "My City is better than your City" I have just one thing to say.

This all has me rather worried. I thought we down here at the end of the world had missed out on Terrorism but, as luck would have it, the likes of wishart & co. have reminded us of the threat to life as we know it.
