I wonder should the NZF return, they need not be anywhere but on the cross benches which would at least block the possibility of National forming a Govt. If they are not for National, they must be against them but not necessarily for Labour but not against them. I know what I mean!

  • Hard News: Through the Looking Glass,

Since there is about $14billon in the fund now and at that rate by 2018 there would be perhaps $30b, wouldn't 40% enforced internal investment cause distortions in the Market? (Some-one said that our Market runs at about $50b.)

  • Cracker: Caution Boaties,

I noticed the price of cigarettes the other day while at a dairy. I said to the shopkeeper " Hell. They are over $10 a packet! I wish I smoked!"
    She said "Why?"
"Well if I smoked I could give it up and think of the $70 + I would save each week."
It has been said that those who pressure you to drink more, comes from an urge to cover their own concerns over their own drinking. If everyone is drinking I must be OK. Have another damn you. It is also said that when the drinkers call quits the school gets smaller until only the drunk is left.

  • Hard News: The odds, and the simply odd,

It must be interesting to know what effect high polls have on the voters. Would constantly hearing that National has 50% of the vote, cause people to "join the winners"? There are by the July NZIER poll as many as 27% undecided, and the recent polls suggest about 20% undecided. Is there any research on this?

  • Hard News: The odds, and the simply odd,

I do know that some wealthy parents have their money in a trust. Their declared income is small enough to allow their University children to qualify for Student Allowance. I know that one of them was given a house in CH CH while collecting Student Allowance.

  • Hard News: Rationalisation is at hand!,

Yamis/Bob: In the end the answer lies with Motivation, Motivation,Motivation. We are so used to providing the motivation to or at kids that we fail to tap the enormous power of SELF-motivation. This includes Relevance Connectivity. It amazes me that so much attention is paid to making kids get back to school, and ignoring the reasons why not.
Think of Chris Lilley’s Summer Heights High where we met Jonah, the smart- arse Tongan break-dancer, who was finally dragged from the school. A brilliant piece of commentary, on failing to manage the problem. "Can't understand why he didn't want to learn!"

  • Hard News: Have you met thingy?,

If Autism is near one end of the Continuum, then it is probable that everyone is somewhere on the continuum with no or a few or many characteristics. Then there is the genetic pre-disposition. And Asbergers or Dispractia etc

I tried to cover my difficulty with name recall by trying to persuade everyone present to all be called Margaret. It was received in hostile silence. I suggested that every book in the Public Library should be multiple copies of the same book which would make it easier to remember Title/Author and much easier to choose a book to read. Same hostile response.
